Angry Re: Wk2 Rear Knocking Noise Aussie GC Laredo

Thanks again. One wonders why the diesel and petrol need different rear shocks....? I will try to get the newer version and see what happens. I just gotta get rid of that noise..........

Wink Re: Wk2 Rear Knocking Noise Aussie GC Laredo

I believe we may have some good news coming through re our SLS noises. A week ago, I emailed ZF in the USA, outlining our issues and asking for any update ( ZF manufacture the Sachs SLS shocks)
Yesterday, I had a reply from ZF Australia.!! I quote "" Hi Barry, After speaking with the Jeep dealer network, they have advised that they will have an updated shock within 2 weeks. Please contact your local dealer and advise situation."
Cant ask much better than that. I will keep you posted.............

Re: Wk2 Rear Knocking Noise Aussie GC Laredo

Barry, I'm in Las Vegas, NV, USA, and I'm going to my dealership next Wednesday to have my "clunking" issues looked at. My dealership hasn't heard of the clunking/SLS issue. And, since there are no TSBs out there for our specific issue on the Laredo, I'm trying to gear up for the visit.

Can you share the email address and info you received so I can share it with my dealership? Instead of them fumbling around and guessing at a possible fix, it would be nice to walk in with a gift wrapped answer for them.

Re: Wk2 Rear Knocking Noise Aussie GC Laredo

Great news indeed. Will see if the shocks my dealer ordered (which are on a National Backorder) are the new ones already.

Great to have this community!

We down here have learnt from bitter experience that for Chrysler Australia "2 weeks" is code for "Call your dealer in two weeks time. He won't know what you are talking about because we won't tell him and hopefully you will be convinced to forget the whole thing and go away." Good luck anyway!

I googled the ZF site in the USA. They have a "contact us" on line service..where i outlined our ongoing problems. The reply came thru from ZF Australia...as I quoted.
Friday here tomorrow, I will be chewing on our local dealer for an update. Probably too early, but want to keep them on their toes. I will report ANY outcomes...

Re: Wk2 Rear Knocking Noise Aussie GC Laredo

I posted earlier that I thought my Jeep might have the noise. My 2012 4x4 w/ V6 has the factory towing package. I hear the noise when driving slowly on roads with wide seams. But only occasionally... I could live with this. The small movement noise sounds like stiction in a shock. Almost everytime I come to a stop, when the nose dives and the back comes up I hear the noise as the back is starting to settle back down as I ease to a stop. On some bigger/jarring hits, the sound is like a softball rolling around in a plastic bucket. My Jeep (1005 miles) has been in the shop three times for tires that won't balance or out of round, 17" goodyear forteras. It seemed like tires were fixed after they replaced them the 2nd time, then road force balanced them the third time.

Last night I towed my ATVs (2400lbs total). The back end was creaking and popping which made me think something was loose. I pulled over and checked what I could and didn't see anything loose. Then I got on the Interstate and at 75 mph, I thought all hell was going to break loose, so I slowed to 65. The creaking and popping of the shocks (or whatever the hell it is) was just insane. At 65mph, the out of round/balance tires reered their ugly head and made me think something was going to break/snap so I got off the Interstate.

This is my first unibody vehicle that I've towed with, so maybe the creaking/poping noises are normal? But the "softball in a bucket" sound was just over the top.

Re: Wk2 Rear Knocking Noise Aussie GC Laredo

Dropped my 2012 JGC Laredo X 4x4 with tow package and SLS off at the dealership today. Was able to get the service manager to put his top tech in the back seat while we went for a drive. The tech said that he could hear what we've been complaining about. He said that he had a new Durango that had made the same noises. Because he could, he just replaced everything on the rear end for his vehicle. He said he'd do the same for me if needed.

They called me after about 4 hours and said that I could come pick it up as they were going to need to order some parts for it. I have another appointment next week to have the parts installed. I'll try to get what parts were ordered for the forum and give an update.

As a side note, I had reached out to ZL a week ago in hopes they'd responde before I went to the dealership. But, I never did hear back from them.

I'm hoping it's all fixed on Tuesday.

Re: Wk2 Rear Knocking Noise Aussie GC Laredo

My parts aren't in yet, but the dealership did say that they ordered new shocks for me. And, they did order one for both sides. The part number is 68069680AB.

It supposed to be ready next Monday. I'll give feedback once it's all done.
