Wrong SUMMIT steering wheel = Limited or Overland purchase instead...???

Hey Everyone,

Just a quick status update on our SUMMIT order...

As noted previously, our SUMMIT arrived at the dealer recently...and just like the other SUMMIT's that got shipped...our's also was inspected and found to have the wrong Steering Wheel installed. Well, we our due to take delivery in the next 30 days or so...but we advised the dealer we wanted to wait until the the Steering Wheel issue was resolved. He's doing his best...but based from what we have read on these forums...it may not be resolved in the next 30 days (especially if it's a Supply Issue).

So...given the problem at hand (with something as obvious as an incorrect Steering Wheel making it thru QC)...the wife feels that something of a stigma has now been attached to these 2012 SUMMIT builds...which is making us weary of taking delivery at all (of any SUMMIT's).

That said...she is now thinking of rejecting the order (due to being built incorrectly)...and switching to a Limited or Overland instead...which means we have to put in a new order almost ASAP!! She is also thinking of switching from the MG/Saddle to True Blue/Frost...if she can see a good representation of the True Blue. Other than Trim level change...the config will be the same, except for "Summit Only" features.

Any thoughts on this?? Also...what would be the difference between the Limited & Overland (we won't be getting the ORA2, so no ELSD) besides interior color schemes?? Any real advantage of one vs the other...aside from QL??

Please let us know...TIA!!

Re: Wrong SUMMIT steering wheel = Limited or Overland purchase instead...???

As I stated on other thread, I do not feel that the steering wheel issue is QC. I feel it was done intentionally as the other wheels are N.A. and Jeep did not want to delay delivering the vehicles. IMO it is not a horrible looking substitution and it is easily switched in the future.

I can't speak for your wife, but I know how mine thinks. Might this be a "reason" to pick a new color scheme?

BTW you can option the Limited so that it is almost similar to the Overland without the QL

i think you might be to quick to jump the gun unless saving extra dollars is an issue ,i feel confident that they will make good on the wheel issue the little extras in the summit make up for the wait afterall it isn't a drivability issue. as i posted earlier i think they ran into a supplier issue and as milous said in another post they will probably due a rapid transmittal to keep us happy. the wheel by the way stripped has a cost of 720.00 dollars

My dealer has a line on a new part number and ordered one direct for quality control(he says). Anyway, the new wheel is supposed to be here Thursday. I will let you know

Re: Wrong SUMMIT steering wheel = Limited or Overland purchase instead...???

Its just a steering wheel. It has to be a supply issue I don't think they would install the wrong wheel on this many vehicles by mistake. I like the look of the overland is wheel better anyways, but it might not match the other wood trim as well as the summit wheel. I would just take it and when they get the correct wheel have them change it out.

Squeaky wheel gets the oil. If we dont make noise it wont happen. The wheel looks really bad on a Summit.

I think so too. Anyone that thinks it looks fine should get their eyes checked. You guys pay a lot of money for a Summit, why settle on hopes of it being replaced some day.. Seems foolish to me.

Re: Wrong SUMMIT steering wheel = Limited or Overland purchase instead...???

Ok...so since the wife hasn't checked out the JGC's in about 3 months, I took her to a Jeep dealer last night to see the differences in person...to give her better perspective on the matter at hand.

Her response is...they say it will be fixed, but they can't guarantee it (especially if it's a supply issue)...so we could end up with a JCG worth less than a 2011, due to being built wrong...therefore she wants a better discount on the sale price (we already get it $1500 under invoice, USAA + $1k Conquest Rebate), or she wants them to order an Overland with same config (minus Summit bits)...and she's not budging on this.

That said...what's the chance of us getting a bigger discount due to improper build, to offset the possibility that it may not get fixed & the additional depreciation that would coincide???

Otherwise, we have to order the Overland by Friday, to get it delivered by end of next month.

They will fix the steering wheel eventually, its not like its going to be wrong forever. I wouldn't worry too much about it, just make sure that they put in writing that it will be corrected.

Re: Wrong SUMMIT steering wheel = Limited or Overland purchase instead...???

I love my Summit. I think it's the best trim combo.

You asked for opinions....so mine is you're making a mountain of a mole hill. They will replace it soon....not the end of the world or something to be unreasonable about. Have them toss in some free oil changes for the inconvenience and move on. It's good for a chuckle.
