Yellow drip in snow midway back

Just like title says. I found a yellowish color drip part way back in the snow under the jeep this morning. What could this be? Thanks jon

Re: Yellow drip in snow midway back

Don't eat the yellow snow, cause that's where the huskies go!

Re: Yellow drip in snow midway back

Most likely gear oil, my old jeep used to do that. It had a pinion seal leak.

Re: Yellow drip in snow midway back

It could be rusty condensation dripping from exhaust.

If oil leak it will leak usually hot as it cools it stops.

If exhaust it eould drip when you start and idle a bit.

Once again I'll have to disagree with Jack.

The only way to tell for sure is to taste it.

Re: Yellow drip in snow midway back

Haha. I was driving thru deep snow in the yard last night before parking it there. I think I had that happen under my Tacoma once when pushing the 4wd hard now that I think of it. Think it's just from working the 4wd harder than normal thru 10-12 inches of crusted snow?

Re: Yellow drip in snow midway back

My collie boy has marked his/my GC on numerous occasions. If he is aiming for the rear tire he can spray 18inches underneath. My herding instructors Border Collie Joey has always marked my vehicles. BFD.

Maybe a coyote or wolf really likes your GC.

Smell and texture will get you pretty close. Plenty close enough for me.

Re: Yellow drip in snow midway back

huskies wouldn't fit under the vehicle very well, but racoons, squirrels, skunks, badgers, etc. could be responsible.

Taste may not be necessary, sniff may be good enough. Gear lube has a rather petroleum sulfury smell, unlike having to chase down and compare the other possibilities.

If that were the case, you'd expect the spots to look more like the attached.
