Most modern trannies shift pretty fast. HOWEVER, the 8 speed also needs two shifts to get to 60 mph. The 6 speed (pseudo "6" speed) of the 11-13 only needs one. Who knows? A lot of it depends on how the fast the transmissions shift to utilize the gears. My wife's Toyota 6 speed in her 6cyl. Sienna feels sportier/faster with it's shifts than my '12 Hemi.I hope Jeep did the 8 speed right. I'll buy a '15 when they bump the HP a little to the level of their Ram trucks. Enjoy your '14s
LR4 had a shorter 1st gear (like 2014 JGC) and was quicker 0-30 mph (2.2 - 2.6 sec). At 0-50 mph they were equal (5.2), but at around 50mph JGC shifts into 2nd and revs fall from 5500 to 3000 rpm. Then it needs more than 2 seconds to reach 60 mph because of low revs. 0-60 mph LR4 (6.9 sec) - JGC (7.3 sec).
8 speed has a short first gear (better off the line acceleration)
Closer together ratios (revs will drop from 5500 to 3700, instead of 3000 rpm)
8 speed shifts faster.
IMO there is room for a full second improvement at 0-60 mph.
