I remember Toyota's All-Trac 200 HP Celica Turbo being a lot slower than I would have thought back in the day.
I saw a January test of the Explorer Sport going 0-60 in 5.9 seconds. It has "5" horsepower less supposedly than the Hemi. Go figure.
Bingo...I own a 2008 Dodge Magnum hemi AWD[ 340hp, 390 tq, 4300 lbs.] and a 2011 Ford Taurus SHO AWD [ 365hp, 350tq, 4450 lbs.] My SHO totally destroyes my Magnum in any race at any speed. I have always felt that the hemi engines were over rated as to hp and torque but could never find a dyno test of a hemi. As a matter of fact, a 2013 SHO rombs a 2013 Charger R/T hemi in 0-60 even though both are basically same weight, HP, and torque. Likewise, a new Explorer Sport ecoboost V6 will crush the 2014 hemi GC even though both have comparable weight, HP, and torque....go figure.

Re: 0-60 times JGC V6 & V8

Gear ratios play a significant role. All 5 speed vehicles (Charger, 300, GC, Durango) lack a real first gear. SRT's are exception because of an aggressive final drive ratio.

According to C/D data, that's not the case, although Taurus have more agressive gear ratios, at least until the 8 speeds come.

Overall gear ratios:
........Taurus........Charger
1st.......14.2............11.0
2nd........9.1.............6.7
3rd........5.8..............4.3

Gear ratios difference is even greater between Explorer and Grand Cherokee (V6 vs V6, EcoBoost vs Hemi)

Overall gear ratios:
........Explorer V6 AWD........2013 G. Cherokee V6.....2014 G. Cherokee V6
1st..................15.18........................ .....10.98.........................16.25
2nd...................9.73........................ ......6.70..........................10.83
3rd...................6.24........................ .......4.31...........................7.24

It's similiar for the Ecoboost vs Hemi.

Re: 0-60 times JGC V6 & V8

Let's wait for the first 0-60 test of the 2014 GC hemi with the new 8 speed [better gear ratios]. I would conjecture that it is still quite a bit slower than the Explorer Sport. By the way, I actually hope that you are right since I will be ordering a 2014 Limited hemi in the summer.

Nice, thanks much.

Can't wait to see diesel times... and then diesel times with a tuning box in.

Re: 0-60 times JGC V6 & V8

Is it just me or does one of those numbers seem off? 7.5 vs 6.5. Having driven a ram with the hemi, 8-speed, and a 3.55 rear end, I would be very surprised if the '14 picked up a second on the '11, but numbers don't lie...

Yup.

the '14 powertrain calibration with the 8sp is very different.

And as soon as they defucticate the shift maps to get rid of the hang and torquelimit between gears it'll be even better.. if they ever do

Is the reason for this bad programming or is it a technique to squeeze out more MPGs?

What I mean is I don't think the '14 is a second faster than the '11. The reason I say that the SRT didn't benefit much from the 8-speed and the 5-speed that was on it before was not geared as aggressively as the 8-speed is.
NAG1 1st Gear = 3.5ish
545RFE 1st Gear = 3.0
845RFE 1st Gear = 4.7ish

Also, the '11 has seen multiple software flashes that affect throttle and shift mapping so maybe the '11 was that slow, who knows.

Thrust me it is that slow. The new V6 with the 8 speed is actually as fast as the 2011-2013 hemi.

Yea... no they are not. The '14 v6 Overlands run in the mid/low 8 second range.
