My Hemi in my new Overland doesn't smoke. I get the normal steam from condensation on cold morning start ups but that's it.

Re: 2011 jeep gc overland blown hemi engine

Goddamn it, Now here we go with the whole smoking HEMI debate again....

A little white smoke on start up is normal on any car, not just the HEMIs.

To the OP, don't mean to be the fly on the sandwich but don't hold your breath on a new Jeep. They would just fix the engine, kiss you on the forehead and give you a kick in the ass and tell you to be on your way. With 600 miles on it, you have a used car no matter how new you feel the car is to you.

Oh and before people start to freak out. No, all WK2 engines do NOT this. In fact, I'm sure that a 3.6L would be more likely to do this then a 5.7L.

Agreed. Someone posted that they needed a new engine put the new one only had a 2 year war.

+1 on the depreciation. - New GC (or refund) is the only way to go.

???

Why wouldn't you be wondering about a defective head gasket instead? I can't imagine anything someone could do in ANY 250 miles to cause the head gasket to blow.

Except maybe pull over, take the intake off, and loosen a head bolt. Hmm!!

Re: 2011 jeep gc overland blown hemi engine

thousands built, always possible to get a bad one of anything. I took my last cell phone back 4 times before I got one that worked. I own (2) 2011's and only minor issues, but I would be pissed if one of them blew. But then again it's the luck of the draw, even six sigma isn't 100%.

Do what you feel you have to do to feel better about the deal, hopefully your dealer will just put you in another vehicle but at any rate once you get a good one I know you will like it. Every auto man. has issues with their cars/trucks, most never make the news but the forums are thick with complaints about one thing or another.

Re: 2011 jeep gc overland blown hemi engine

beating a cold engine could certainly blow head gasket.... not totally related but i've guys blow up their harleys coming out of a bar and beating the crap out of it when it's cold... blown head gaskets and worst case a piston that jammed and rods poking out the bottom... and no it wasn't me

Re: 2011 jeep gc overland blown hemi engine

If it was just a little smoke I wouldn't even say anything. It is a new truck. It is smoking think white plumes of smoke out of the exhaust and it smells just like oil. It smoked from day one, but only when you crank it. This time it started constantly and when you accelerate it was like a smoke screen literally. They are dumdfounded and today, acted like they didn't wantto replace the truck. Said they were waiting on Chrylser on how to FIX it. Bear in mind the first payment is coming up and we have no clear anwser on when we will be getting a new truck or it fixed for taht matter. The sales manager at Nichols was a real smart azz to my wife when she called so I will have some choice words for him today. Funny how when they get your money, they could care less. I will say this, stay away from Nichols Chrysler Jeep in NC...When this is over I promise it will cost them more than one Jeep in the long run. We have contacted Chrysler as well.
