Re: 2011 jeep gc overland blown hemi engine

I wonder if the problem occurred during the "dealer transfer of 250 miles?". They pay some college student to drive the car to another dealer and they usually take your brand new vehicle straight up to 90MPH on the freeway and drive the dog doo out of the thing.

How do I know this? My friends use to do it years ago. Many years ago. :-)

Either it is trucked up, or I pick it up myself. Otherwise I don't buy it.

My best friend flew down to L.A. (350 miles) to pick up his new car that he ordered online after discovering that they were going to contract someone to drive it up instead of having it trucked up like he thought. I guess I'm not the only paranoid one

Re: 2011 jeep gc overland blown hemi engine

Assuming this is not purely condensation being evaporated if it continues non-stop and in great volumes to which the OP is alluding. White smoke, not blue? Then it isn't engine oil. Trans fluid would burn kind of white and smell like oil, but that isn't something that would be coming out the tailpipe. Coolant would come out the tailpipe white, but it doesn't smell like oil. Either way, something...smells.

Re: 2011 jeep gc overland blown hemi engine

It sounds like something is broke and it could very well be oil since no one here but the OP has seen it and confirms it smells like oil (coolant would have a sweet smell).

It sounds like this dealer is a piece of work so contacting Chrysler was a good thing. I would be on the phone Monday morning DEMANDING the regional rep meet you at the dealership Tuesday prepared to make a decision.

Oil smoke is usually blueish and coolant smoke is usually white. Maybe the service manager is color blind.

However, the exhaust system does collect moisture, mostly from condensation and there is a fair amount of steam when it's colder outside while the exhaust heats up and burns off the moisture.
Thats exactly what I'm talking about but trying to explain that to some of the people on this forum is a little difficult....there are threads on this that your subscribed to so you know exactly what I'm talking about. You won't see it as much because your from a warm climate so it disapates much faster. I bet Show2ime is from a cold climate area as it takes longer for the engine to warm up and the white smoke shows up much more in the cold air.

They are dumdfounded and today, acted like they didn't wantto replace the truck. Said they were waiting on Chrylser on how to FIX it. Bear in mind the first payment is coming up and we have no clear anwser on when we will be getting a new truck or it fixed for taht matter. The sales manager at Nichols was a real smart azz to my wife when she called so I will have some choice words for him today. Funny how when they get your money, they could care less. I will say this, stay away from Nichols Chrysler Jeep in NC...When this is over I promise it will cost them more than one Jeep in the long run. We have contacted Chrysler as well.
I don't think there's anything wrong with it from what you describe...does the white smoke go away when it warms up? Most of that is from the emissions....I think you should check the oil and drive it...if its really blown up you will know...I promise you.

You've got a point, if the oil level looks good and it's not throwing codes then drive the piss out of it. It will either clear up or go BOOM! If it goes boom then you'll know exactly what broke and it won't take a rocket scientist to figure out what caused the smoke.

Thanks but I'd be careful about following my advice, I have a history of breaking motors on purpose......

Sorry to drift

Back when I raced boats we decided to take our prime motor and run it on the dyno at 100% power for 4 hours or until it blew, tear it down, figure out what broke and do it again until we could run 4 hours without failure (twice the time of an average race). We went through 3 motors (rebuilds) getting it right but each time we found a failure point (or 2) that wasn't obvious, engineered a solution and moved to the next failure. After that exercise we never lost a motor in competition and came up with half a dozen "secrets" that we never shared with other builders

BTW, some of the failures were pretty dramatic, thank goodness for the 1" lexan between us and the motor

Thats awesome! I wish I were they there when it blew. I think thats a really good idea it may be a little expensive but probably worth it in the long run. Then you really know just how good your engine is and it probably gives you much more confidence when running the race with it.

Re: 2011 jeep gc overland blown hemi engine

Confirmed...it is a blown engine and the dealer wouldn't replace it with a new vehicle, Chrysler had to tell them to. I have to go through Chrysler direct...a rep will contact me on the procedure...I will never buy anything from that dealer again for sure. And for the record I know what oil is. I hAve multiple race bikes and cars so I am well aware of engine symptoms. Long as I get a new truck I could care less.
