2011 V6 - Long-term fuel economy decreasing?

See attached graph of my fill ups over the time since June 2011 for my 2011 Overland V6. When it was new it was getting much better gas mileage than now. I usually try to drive to get the best gas mileage (very light footed), rarely idle, etc.

Just curious if anyone else has experienced the same thing?

(App I've been using is AccuFuel)

How many miles do you have on your JGC? It may be time for a tune-up? Is that app free?

Re: 2011 V6 - Long-term fuel economy decreasing?

It's about to hit 30,000mi. It's had regular oil & filter changes/etc. I guess I hadn't thought about a tune-up, but I could check with the dealership next time I take it in.

The app is one I wrote back in 2008; sells for a whopping $0.99 (AccuFuel).

I think the 2011's had the non-platinum plugs...which means they are do to be replaced at 30K.

Pretty much depends on driving style
When new we all baby the car and as we go along we start to push that go pedal a little more aggressively.
I had a chip on my last 4x4 and after 12 months i thought it had stopped working so i disconnected it only to find yes it was working but i had just got so farrmilular with it and had forgotten what a difference it had made
Me thinks

Re: 2011 V6 - Long-term fuel economy decreasing?

Techron?

With the 8000 mile oil changes it kind of throws off my normal schedule.
I used to add a bottle at every oil change.
Guess I need to pick a couple up, one for the Jeep and one for the wife's RAV4.

Miracle juice, really.
Had a tank of bad gas in my Audi back in 2000. Temp went into the sub-zero range and engine would barely run. Dealer pulled codes, but they didn't make any sense. Suggested a bottle of Techron. Dumped it in and drove home. 20 minutes later it was purring like a kitten again.

Re: 2011 V6 - Long-term fuel economy decreasing?

I'm sure your dealer would be happy to sell you a tune-up. Check/change the air filter yourself. Are you still on the OE tires? That will make a difference.

Re: 2011 V6 - Long-term fuel economy decreasing?

Greetings,

In the past couple of years here in the northeast, during the winter season, I burn more fuel than normal. I had this with my 05 xTerra & 08 Pathfinder as well. Other folks that I have spoke to about this find agree. In city and stop/go driving I know it is down and I do not bother keeping track any longer. With summer blend of gas, my mpg goes back up. Around every 12k - 18k pending engine performance, I have the fuel injectors and throttle body cleaned to remove the deposit build up. I have been doing this routine for the last 8 years in addition to the routine maintenance.

Currently my 2011 JGC has now 37k+ on it and since the switch over of the gas blend to winter, I am down about 1-2 mpg. This past summer I averaged 21.5 to 23.5 pending my driving style with my on-road/off-road AT tires on the highway. I would say that with my JGC, I spend about 65 percent of the time on the highway since I traded in the Pathfinder.

Best for now.
