2013 5.7 Performance Package

Ford offers kits, through Ford Racing Performance Parts that are CARB legal, if dealer installed do not affect warranty. I'm considering a 2013 GC 5.7, I cannot find a package (CAI/Exhaust/Chip) that is CARB and does not affect warranty. Can this be true? The world of the HEMI has no dealer CARB rated package to open up the 5.7 at Denver altitude?

Re: 2013 5.7 Performance Package

I have had no problem with an aftermarket CAI and exhaust with my dealer related service in CO, though a tuner would be a different story. Others with a tuner/chip have suggested reinstalling the stock tune prior to any dealer service, but we have yet to enjoy that luxury in a base WK2 as the tuners are not yet on market.

Re: 2013 5.7 Performance Package

There's nothing you can do, short of a turbo/supercharger, that will "open up" the engine at high altitude. The air is less dense, so the engine can't burn as much fuel. An intake and exhaust won't help - the factory exhaust and intake are not the limiting factors, the problem is that there is only 75% as much air to burn fuel with. A tuner might change the engine's throttle map, shift points, etc. which will make the engine appear more responsive and probably more fun to drive - but it can't change physics.

+1, and as Avalys points out, added HP is perhaps the only way to combat thin air up here. That largely needs to come from a tuner along with maybe the rest. I'll keep trying to find a few advantages no matter how small.

Re: 2013 5.7 Performance Package

I am waiting for the 2014 WK2 summit. I have been researching the net for better CAI and outgoing hot exhaust gases for the reason of prolonging the engine and have it run cool, performance is not an issue with me but if by doing the above I can get more performance well so be it. My research indicates the following from shophemi;
Carbon fiber CAI
Billet throttler body
New headers
Corsa exhaust
Performance gain should be around 20-25 ponies, what do you tech savvy people think

Re: 2013 5.7 Performance Package

So you are trying to prolong engine life from like 250,000 miles to what? And do you consider repair/replacement of add on components, like the header when it perhaps rusts through, detract from engine life... or are you thinking block and heads only?

Am I glad a tech savvy guy replied, from what I gather are you trying to tell me not necessary to go the mod route and just stick with what ever the factory has given? Regarding the Headers I was told to get smooth hot gases flowing out of the engine a header replacement together with exhaust is much better than just exhaust. Please be aware I am not an engineer nor a mechanic therefore I take what I am told to be true. Please advise Oh Cold One
