2014 5.7 Vibration & governor Effect

Hi all,

Wondering if any of you have ever experienced the following with your 2014 5.7 JGC.

First, when I coast during city driving (anywhere between 20-50 MPH), I often times get this "governor effect where the car seems to purposely pull back and almost brake itself and not let me continue a smooth coast.

Secondly, recently I have noticed - again during city driving - that the engine seems to cause a deep low vibration sound/feel for a few seconds randomly before transitioning back into the silky smooth feel we all know and love with our jeeps. It almost feels like for a few seconds here and there that I'm sitting in a Diesel engine while idle, but I'm moving (usually letting off the gas).

Has anyone experienced anything similar?

TIA!

The low vibration rumbling you feel is The MDS. MDS is when it stops use of 4 of the cylinders and only uses the remaining 4 under lite loading for fuel effecency, its normal. Press the gas slightly more and it will quickly switch back to using 8 cylinders.

Re: 2014 5.7 Vibration & governor Effect

The ZF transmission has somewhat "aggressive" downshifts, even when coasting to a stop.

With my 2013 JGC V8, I opt out of the ECO mode. I dislike the dropping of 4 cylinders unless I'm on an Interstate and around little traffic.

Thanks everyone. There is no way to auto turn off Eco is there? Half the time I forget until I'm two minutes to my destination.

Yes there is a new transmission flash for the 2014 5.7 that will make the eco button stay where you set it between start cycles. Your dealer will have to load it. Go to the TSBs at wk2jeeps.com and you can reaxd about it.

Thank you! I didn't realize there was one, as I recently took it in for service and they said all systems were updated.

Yup, i went to my dealer just days as it was released and was advised they still do not have it. May take a month or two to receive it is what my dealer said.

I've noticed this SEVERAL times with my 2012 5.7 Hemi.

It almost feels like something is causing some kind of load or friction on the drivetrain.
