Re: 2014 V8 is weak?

I wonder how much faster the old 5.9 Limited was. I would love to line up with one just out of curiosity.

In stock form, that might be a good match-up. I wouldn't bet it is faster, but it should be pretty close.

The first issue might be finding a stock one, it was a pretty popular vehicle to mod.

Co worker has a stock one but its falling a part. 245K and counting actually. So it might explode by the time it hits 60. My 97 ZJ is in much better shape.

I agree. Might be close but probably not faster. I really liked those 5.9's back in the day.

my v8 is much faster than the v6, just test drive one and you will instantly know the difference.

Are you comparing same years? If you have a last year or older V8, the '14 V6 will run right with you. It makes its power higher so it feels different. Not that immediate rush. That is the same reason why the diesel feels quicker than it actually is.

Most 0-60 times I see for 2014 v6 are 7.9 versus 6.8 for the 5.7...Where is your data coming from?

I'm old enough to remember the era of the Keith Black "ram" 426's, the 426 Hemis with "only wink, wink 425" horsepower and such that would take out a 427 Rat Motor Vette so, fast is probably a memory thing.

If I were younger and more adventurous, I'd see how much it would cost to sneak a MDS type 6.4 in place of the 5.7, and reprogram the power modules to allow it to shut off 4 at cruise.

From an actual test and not from someone with a Diablo or something similar. The '13 and earlier Hemi needed over 7.5 to 60 and 15.8 in the 1/4. Every test said that the Hemi was slower than the competitions V6. The new '14 V6 does 7.5 and 15.7. It means that there is a good chance it will be a car length or more ahead if the older Hemi. Sourced from Car and Driver.

Interestngly enough...there are a whole pile of modern engines cranking out lots more HP than 1/Cu In these days. What is GM getting out of their 6.2 engine now....500 something HP?

I see a lot of variation in 0-60 times...maybe depending on temp? To be accurate comparison, the tests need to be done under same conditions
