Most 0-60 times I'm reading put the Sequoia at 6.7 versus 6.9 for the Grand Cherokee. Not exactly "smoking" the WK2! But the point is that these are SUVs...not Sport Wagons. I reiterate...If it's performance someone is after, especially on the pavement, there are lots of better choices. Personally, I loved driving the Audi Q5 3.0 ltr....Fantastic little wagon...but would I take it into the mountains???
Yes, most people here are biased towards Jeeps....maybe because the site is named JEEP GARAGE, and you'll not find a group of more loyal enthusiasts than you will find right here. Most of us bought Jeeps knowing what we wanted, aware of what performance to expect, both on...and off road. Some people may experiment with modifications to improve performance, but guys who do this would be doing the same type of mods regardless of the vehicle.
So the question I do have for you is this....If you are as enamored with the Toyota as you appear to be, why are you in the Jeep forums?

Thumbs up Re: 2014 V8 is weak?

For those of you following this thread, someone just posted a link today with the 0-60 times for the V8 from car and driver. Here is a link to his post for reference: http://www.jeepgarage.org/f73/0-60-t...tml#post887569

2011 Grand Cherokee V8 5 speed, 3.47 axle
0-60...................................7.5 sec
0-100...............................19.9 sec

2014 Grand Cherokee V8 8 speed, 3.09 axle
0-60...................................6.5 sec
0-100...............................17.5 sec

Wow, a full second. That's pretty impressive.

Why are you judging people? I just provided you with a fact and you came back with some made up 0-60 for the hemi and your sanctimonious mambo jumbo. The fact that some of us, or should I say a lot of us, are not happy with the hemi performance doesn't make us Jeep haters or whatever lovers.

Whoa.....You are the guy who said that a Sequoia "smokes" my Hemi anytime. That sounds....uh...confrontational? So I looked into some data and it does not support your claim. No "mumbo jumbo" It all pretty much breaks down to physics, and If you show me two vehicles with similar power / weight ratios, Ill show you cars with similar acceleration. ...(final gear ratios not withstanding) .And I didn't judge anybody either. This is a forum...a place for people to exchange ideas and thoughts. Didn't mean to hurt anybody's feelings, but I have as much right to my views as you do.
Personally, I don't care what anybody else drives...This all started when I said that somebody looking for fast street performance may want to consider something else....and I stand by that statement. These are SUVs, and mid six second 0-60 times are very respectable.

Re: 2014 V8 is weak?

Quick question for you guys that are much smarter than me on this stuff. Is the reason for the 1 sec 0-60 difference I posted above all due to the new 8-spd transmission in the '14s? Or are there other reasons like additional updates to the hemi?

All improvements are due to the 8-speed transmission.

Yes, my statement was very confrontational especially when you take into consideration that I've own hemis for the last five years. And yes, it appears the 2014 Hemi does 6.5 s (per C/D) but a lot of us here own 2011-2013's and without mods they get between 7.5 (C/D) and low 8's (forum users). Of course, these hemis get smoked by Tundras all the time -- I know from personal experience.

Perhaps we can leave physics (mechanics/thermodynamics) out of this as well, because these days what matters is electronics (yeah, I know a branch of electromagnetism). It's thanks to electronics that Chrysler has managed to screw up the hemi's performance in order to squeeze the extra mpg.

Not everyone has to share your views on how an SUV should perform. If people didn't deem their hemis as somewhat week there wouldn't be so many of us installing CAI's, and Interceptors, and Diablo tunes! Yes, this a forum open to all views but one doesn't need to sound patronizing as you have. Maybe you didn't do it on purpose but it did sound as patronizing.

I don't wish to transform this thread into some kind of hemi against the world kind of thing, and I haven't got anything against you, so as far as I'm concerned this small quarrel is over, unless you have new data Feel free to pm me.

Cheers

Those 0-60 numbers for the 2014 V8 compared to the 2011-2013 models are impressive. Makes it even more appealing to trade up to the 2014 ones.

And folks who say SUVs aren't meant to go fast on pavement are missing the point. These are supposed to be Sport Utility Vehicles and are meant to be capable both On Road & Off Road. There are several SUVs that manage to do great in both arenas so this isn't something new or isolated.

There's a difference between capable and fast. GC Overland with 5.7 is a capable SUV...GC SRT is fast. As for 0-60 times, I checked most of the posted times for a 2013 GC 5.7, and they vary from 6.2 to 7.2, with most being st 6.5....which really isn't bad. Are there faster SUVs? Yeah, but nothing in this price range will compare off road, and +/- a half second really doesn't matter too much

Great point and very eloquently put.

Re: 2014 V8 is weak?

the v8 is much better matched with the 8 speed transmission.. I drove both a few times - and it was clear that the Hemi 8 was the way to go - for so many reasons. After break in - its better than I could have imagined and PLENTY fast.
