Re: 2014 V8 is weak?

From how I understand it power comes from torque V8 has more of and you pay more for the Hemi the V6 is fast in my opinion but it has more HP than torque maybe that's why it may feel under powered and its mated to a 5 speed transmission but the V6 is still good it can tow and go off roading check out some of the YouTube video so it comes down to personal preference

Re: 2014 V8 is weak?

Unlike most, who get amazing mileage from their Hemi's, I consistently get 12-13 mpg in the summer and 10-11 mpg in the winter, 95% city driving. I live at sea level and use 89 oct fuel, and the city is not a big one nor is there a lot of traffic.

A few weeks back I drove a 2014 V6 for almost a week, and was averaging 17 mpg on 87 fuel (more ethanol than 89). This is quite a difference in my book, and moreover the V6 felt way more responsive and faster than my hemi. I can't wait to try a Hemi or a diesel with the ZF 8 speed.

I'm seeing a fuelly overall average of 15.8 with a best tank of 16.6 at just shy of 2000 miles on the odo. This is mostly city, only real highway runs were with a camper in tow and one of those was into a nasty headwind, so that skewed my overall average down. This is on 87 octane with one fill up of 89. I do leave it in eco most of the time. FWIW

Re: 2014 V8 is weak?

I have lived with to 2014 for two months now and it is a much better truck with the ZF8. I use the truck on primary weekends long highway trips which I have been avg 21-23 mpg . In the city 16 avg is common since I like using sport mode for off the launching. I ran my old gc 2011 hemi which is now my father in laws as it stood with corsa exhaust/CAI/ hypertech and my new stock 14 was a few cars length from a dig to 70.

Suspect the good traction and possibly some nannies are conspiring.

Not quite willing to see if it can be dropped from neutral into drive at higher rpm.
Ahh, that's easy ... take traction control off (not sure if that is what Jeep calls it), step on brake, give it some throttle to build up the torque and away you go chirping the tires ...I haven't really tried it just off the line without using the brakes... just have got it

As for gas mileage? I've owned the truck for about 3 tanks of gas, lol.. First tank got about 11 mpg avg, lol... second 12's, and this last one 13's... so far on this tank I am at 14 mpg... I noticed the obvious , the less throttle the better my mpg, lol... plus I drive in bumper to bumper, and every time that Hemi has to lug the GC from a stop, it is obviously using more fuel...

The 2014 was quicker than the 2011.

OK, I've done some more careful experiments.

It appears winne-the-pooh downshift mode is a side effect of eco-mode. Today on the backroads I determined that in non-eco-mode, chugging along at 40MPH in 6th, when you nail it the trans goes straight to 3rd. In eco-mode, you can watch the shift display count down.. It is still not the decisive downshift you'd get with an A727, but it is at least a second faster than the eco-mode downshift.

This is really the first thing I've noticed to be different with eco-mode on the 5.7L. Now that I've figured out how to do multi-parameter logging with Torque, I'll see what else I can learn.

Wuaname....I've got about 900 miles on my 2013 5.7 GC and I'm seeing big mileage improvements as it breaks in.. I also added a Volant CAI, which added another 1.5 mpg. All told, I am now getting a solid 13 mpg in almost exclusively city driving, in a hilly environment. I also think I'm learning how to manage gas use a little better. When you consider that it's better than a 30% improvement from when it was brand new....every mile I can get out of a gallon helps.
I LOVE my Grand Cherokee, really do.... but it sure can guzzle some gas!

Well...had my first freeway on ramp challenge today.. Girl in a Kia box did not want me to get on the freeway first so we both nailed it at the same time....Glad to report I blew her away by a couple of lengths by the time came to merge.....PHEW. If a freakin KIA Soul had beaten me...well, let's just not go there. To be honest, it's the first time I really put my foot in it, and it felt Goooooood!

Re: 2014 V8 is weak?

I remember the first time I fully matted my '14 5.7, I was shocked at how much is squatted and bolted... not to mention the roar of the v8. I honestly think it might outrun my '11 TL I traded in and suspect I'll surprise more than a few people along the way with it...
