They sell many Jeep Grand Cherokee's with 5.7 V-8's and 2 WD. These have highway tires with tread patterns not meant for off road. So I'm not seeing why they cannot equip these vehicles with high speed rated tires that simply match the engine they put in the thing to begin with?

What percentage of 4WD Grand Cherokees actually see dirt? I'll bet it's very small. And I'm not talking about a 1/4 mile gravel forest road to a campground packed with kids. That is traveled by more Toyota Camry's, than it is 4WD vehicles.

If the reasoning is to govern engine speed in order to comply with the cheap, low speed rated tires they're putting on these vehicles. It certainly would appear purchasers of these vehicles would be willing to pony up the few lousy bucks for tires that match engine performance. It makes no sense to pay $3,200+ for a high performance engine, so the manufacturer can regulate that performance to match the 5 and dime tires they're giving you with it.

You shouldn't have to pay $70K+ to have a vehicle with tires that match it's performance.

If you don't know why or how something is limited you should learn. Your desire shows your limits not the jeeps. I'm thankful for natural selection just disappointed it usually misses its target or takes out bystanders. I'm sure you are well versed in suspension design, aerodynamics, and tire construction. I'm also positive peoples pockets exceed their driving ability and that's makes them think they're very competent high speed drivers. I'm just exceedingly happy you're states away, not because you want to go 150 I'm cool with that, because you don't have the knowledge to go with that speed. This is a big boys game not an I bought it so I can use it league. I suggest some reading and seat time before guessing why the "tires are the limit" not politics, mileage standards, vehicle design, or bad drivers/insurance regulations etc. are the determining factor. Just an assumption, but what do I know. Do me a favor and choose your roads wisely, not a joke but very few places can accommodate 150+ and still have limited traffic, crap jumping out, or a decent surface.

2015 JGC 5.7 Top End?

I took mine to 210km/hr. Governor kicked in. It was still pulling so had some room in it yet. I could tell the Foteras were getting greasy though at that speed.

Highway was quiet 4 lanes. The Jeep doesn't have the suspension to do anything but go straight at that speed being on non SRT.

My Acura TL's both were smooth at 240km/hr.

I remember my 2012 went 114mph. Not sure about my 2014 or my 2015 though.

Re: 2015 JGC 5.7 Top End?

If my 14 Hemi Limited 4x4 is any indication it should hit close to 130mph. I just converted the 210kph mine governed at.

Does anyone know if there is a difference in "governing" in like equipped vehicles sold here, compared to those sold down under?

Re: 2015 JGC 5.7 Top End?

I have top rated for speed SUV tires, Hankooks, but I'm not going to try this, lol. I'd like to keep my license and my life. I don't trust the air suspension at high speeds. I have gone 99 mph on a gradual curve and it handled it fine though.

Re: 2015 JGC 5.7 Top End?

I think it is an interesting question (how fast the JGC can go), but I am not sure trying to hit 150mph is a great idea - I already feel like I am just a bit separated from the road in my summit compared to my '06 overland (a lot more feedback in a positive way). I can only imagine how my new jeep would float over the road, even in "Aero" mode .

The Diablo tuner? It's easy, takes 5 minutes. If you bring it in for service just flash the ECU back.

I would verify that the dealer can't tell if it's been unlocked to install and then uninstall a tune. I know that when a GM vehicle is brought in for a power train issue under warranty, the PCM must be downloaded to GM to check for a tune or a previous unlocking of the PCM. Some owners who reverted back to stock were very surprised and disappointed when they ended up paying for the repair themselves.

That's the whole thing with all of these plug in "Tuners". You've got to figure the engineers who were smart enough to design the damn thing in the first place, would be smart enough to be able to tell if someone was in there messing around with some type of plug in, aftermarket "tuner".

I wonder how many Diesel truck owners have had to empty their pockets after blowing up a perfectly good engine, trying to "tune it" for more power with these type of things?
