The factory intake is as cold as your gonna get on this car. It's literally taking air from the opening between the hood and headlight and is a completely sealed plastic system that doesn't heat soak like metal piping/heat shields.

I agree!! The OEM system is more of a cold air setup than any of the aftermarket IMO. Just pop the hood and look for yourself. Not only that but you know it's going to be best for reliability as well. Obviously these intake threads have been beat to death for as long as I can remember and the cool thing is we are free to decide what we like and what we want on our car. For me I will be leaving the intake stock, plus I always thought the intake noise from an aftermarket intake to sound kind of annoying.

Yep, that is the only reason I gave the the Momentum a shot.

1. It's all plastic (because I am one of those people that feel a drop in is the best bang for the buck)

2. It still uses the same air intake as OEM air inlet.

3. It gets rid of the resonator box in the OEM intake tube, and thusly creates pretty efficient flow of air.

Now that my curiosity is satisfied, I don't regret purchasing the Momentum since I do see improvement in the whole rpm range and with the right octane fuel 89 in my case induction noise is only a few db louder than stock.

The aFe drop in Pro dry S does improve mpg's in conjunction with synthetic oil. You will see on average a 1 mpg inprovement with just the filter and 3 mpg with the synthetic and filter.

You almost have me curious enough to try this and the reason being is I have logged every fill up since day one with my Jeep and I could easily measure improvements. If you don't already check out the app "fuely". Its cool to see exactly how your vehicle is doing as well since we all know the cars dash reading isn't always the most accurate. Its ALWAYS generous. I like it also because over time I have compared my V8 Grand Cherokee to my V6 Grand Cherokee with the same commutes.
The only problem with what you have said is I have free oil changes from my purchasing dealer and I would assume I wont be getting synthetic fluids. Sounds like a cool text, but I wont give up the free oil changes for now. Now that I think of it though I do remember the finance guy saying something about them switching to better fluids, but being a finance guy who knows how true that is.

You might be able to pay the difference of a standard oil change to full synthetic. It's definitely worth it for the MPG gains on the V6. I switched to synthetic and swapped my drop in air filter to an AEM dryflow panel filter and I'm up 2-3mpg average with no added noise. The aem only costs 45-50 bucks.

" cold air intake" is a misnomer if it is not pulling cooler air from outside the engine bay.

I have an aFe Power Momentum GT intake on my 2012 3.6 and I will say this on a stretch of road from light to light prior to the momentum I have never been able to do better than 78 mph on the stretch.

Since the installation of the momentum intake i have been able to acheive speeds up 83 mph. Truth be told the truck does not feel any faster but the MPH show improvement.

On another road I could do better than 81, the last time I tried a run on that Road I was at 89 and I had to get on the brakes a whole lot harder. These are roads I have been messing around on and have seen constant results.

So a perfomance intake does make a difference, is the induction noise a good trade off is the price a good trade off. You be the judge.
What a freaking toolbag!

See, you've got the same idea I do. The reason I feel an aftermarket air intake works better than the OE is because it eliminates unnecessary resonators and baffles for sound deadening, as well as gives a more direct run from the filter to the throttle body. The same way a performance exhaust might help give a straighter run out the back of the car. Less resistance, less restriction, more efficient, more power (hopefully). The way the new intake looks on the '16 3.6L, it has an extra bend before the throttle body. I didn't understand why They designed it that way. I figured someone might make something in time that gives a straighter run.

Re: 2016 3.6L Pentastar Cold Air Intake?

The pentastar, is the basic bread and butter engine.

To save money I thinK there are only 2 or 3 different intakes for the 3.6 depending on the application.

The new revised pentastar still seems to have a better intake.

I didn't buy my momentum intake looking for gains hp.

I am delighted to say that the only negative (to me is the slight increase in induction noise.

I live on a Caribbean island where you have to ship in everything. The local chrysler dealer wanted $48.00 for an OEM replacement filter.

So at the time I decided to buy a aFe pro dry S panel filter so I did not have the recurring cost of buying air filters throughout the term of ownership.

A year later aFe released the momentum intake for the 5.7. I wrote them asking if they were going to make one for the 3.6. They didn't respond right away... then I saw they released one for the 3.6 in late 2015.

The biggest reason I wanted to try the momentum GT was from many of the posts that PADGETT made from when he modified his intake and was measuring his intake air Temps and coolant temps. His climate was close to mine since he is in Florida. (He had kept the air box and modified the intake tube claiming that the resonator heated the intake and he saw a reduction in intake Temps by removing it.)

Here are some pics of the intake from a 2016 GC v6. It has more curves and baffles than the previous version. My "friend" is going to try adapting a 2015 K&N CAI to this new setup. The intake tract is much shorter on the new version but the pre-16 intake could work with some cutting. I'll keep everyone posted.
