Re: 5.7 Eco Mode

Actually, if you do a great deal of pure highway driving you will see very little difference in MPG between then V6 and V8. There is a much bigger difference in city stop and go driving.

While there may be nothing economical about a 360HP SUV, it sure is fun!

FWIW, I average 16.8mpg during my weekly commute: 13-miles, 45min each way with a lot of lights and stop & go as I work on a Military Installation. I have averaged 20-mpg a round-trip for the few "long" trips (150+ miles one way) i've taken.

I am more than happy with this and from what I've read on this forum the V6 is marginally better, like 15%.

Sorry, I wasn't trying to turn this into a V6 vs V8 MPG thread - plenty of those exist.
Correct, I meant turning off the notification. I can determine on my own, from my knowledge of cars what is economical driving and what is not. One might argue, however, that tow/haul mode would turn off "eco" mode, but it doesn't matter.

Either way, I agree with you. In very few cases does "economical=fun", in my experience anyway.

Re: 5.7 Eco Mode

^^Agreed.

I too have my ECO notification off. If I remember correctly, I do not believe ECO will engage when in Tow/Haul mode (if equipped).

Re: 5.7 Eco Mode

If you run in 5, there is no Eco mode. I use 5 around town and only use D on the highway.

I don't think that is true. The Sport function controls power to the wheels, giving the driver the impression and feel of a RWD vehicle. I don't believe it alters the engine's mannerism's.

This was a question presented to the Jeep Engineer who participates occasionally in Q&A on the forum; I don't recall seeing a response though.

This would jive with no ECO when using Tow/Haul mode as the transmission doesn't go into, for lack of a better term, overdrive (D).

Re: 5.7 Eco Mode

I thought at first that 5 was not overdrive, but at highway speeds, you run the same RPM whether you are in 5 or D. Only difference seems to be no Eco in 5.

I think people are using the words ECO and MDS as the same but they are different. MDS is when the vehicle is running on 4 cylinders and ECO is just a stupid light on the dash that means nothing.

You have a 5-spd transmission, why would limiting the tranny to 5th gear change anything? When you shift into "5" and get on the highway, it will not shut down cylinders but it will still use 5th gear.

I think

I don't believe this is 100% correct either. Its my understanding that manual "5" equals 4th gear in full auto mode.

Honestly, there is nothing economical about driving a 5k SUV with a big V8.
I pretty much agree with this comment. I've left my Eco light on but I think based on my general driving habits I may turn it off. I'm barely getting 9mpg in the city but that is short trips over urban streets with traffic lights and stop signs. I think the Eco light made me a little more aware of my driving habits when I was on a highway trip out of town and when i was careful I did quite well getting 21-22mpg on one trip. But on my typical drive in the city the light is useless. It takes a lot of fuel to get that 6500lb beast moving from a dead stop even without a lead foot!
