5.7 Engine and 8spd Trans Temps

Hey everyone, Happy Holidays!

So I was wondering what is everyone's normal operating temperatures for their oil in the 5.7L hemi and the new 8spd transmissions.

I was on a 2 hour trip this weekend "mostly highway driving" and I was wondering if my temps were about the same as everyone else's.

Engine oil = 196F-206F
Transmission oil = 178F

I'm sure there are going to be variables depending on options and mileage.

Re: 5.7 Engine and 8spd Trans Temps

Interesting. I will be conducting a 4hr trip this coming Friday. I believe for the most part i get around those same numbers. I'll try to document this and report back.

Those numbers are normal. The new 8 speed is designed to run much warmer than the previous transmissions.

Okay cool, because I was getting a little worried about the tranny temp. My friend who has an F250 and tows a lot said that's a little high for someone who's just driving long distance. im still interested to see what everyone elses oil temps are.

Re: 5.7 Engine and 8spd Trans Temps

Today made my 4hr trip.

Oil temp fluctuated from 212-222
trans from 188 - 196ish.

This was in between 39 and 45 degree weather. I did encounter 27 degrees in the early morning.

Also encountered a bit of wind and going uphill felt i was pushing pedal more n more. Mpg dropped to like 13mpg. Seemed to get alot of wind going uphill felt a lil sluggished compared to my Previous Camaro SS.

Still a fun ride though.

Nice. Were you towing or have any load inside or ontop?

Re: 5.7 Engine and 8spd Trans Temps

No towing. I did have a bit of load. Give or take 550lbs including wifey and I.

I am curious to see how it will perform when i tow 1500lbs (quads)sometime this yr on our next trip.

Re: 5.7 Engine and 8spd Trans Temps

In the summer on our routine 4hr trip it hovers around 195. I loaded a bunch of steel to the scrap yard, not realizing I was pulling pulling over 8500lbs. Jeep pulled it great. This was in the summer, and the temp never went over 205. Of course if i knew the weight, i would have used my cummins ram.
