Re: 5.7 hemi Corsa redesign

I had the same luck with the Magnaflow system on my '14 Hemi. Sounded great on startup, on the highway and WOT. But at low speeds around town the drone was awful. I put about 20kms on it and took it off. Was very disappointed.

I'm sure the MDS or Economy mode has something to do with the sound but it drones at low load levels.

What does Corsa say? You should not get any drone except a second or two when MDS kicks in as the system cancels the drone sounds wave frequency, really.... Call them....

I called tech support and the customer service rep was nice but I don't think he has the power to do anything. He basically let me speak and that was about it. I also sent an email but I'm not confident I'll get a reply.

After spending over $1500 and driving with it for exactly 92 miles, I'm not happy with the new re-design at all. I have an appointment to get my old exhaust system re-installed on May 10th. So I'll just drive the Mustang until then.

I hope everyone understands this is my opinion. But I don't think a 5.7L Overland which I consider a nice SUV should sound like a pickup truck with an aftermarket exhaust while driving around town or in stop and go traffic.

Thanks everyone for your comments

Re: 5.7 hemi Corsa redesign

What should a nice SUV with and aftermarket exhaust sound like? What did you expect with a high performance exhaust??? First, don't ever expect to go faster, more HP with just changing the exhaust and second, of course it going to sound louder...that's the idea.. I see your not even wanting to try a Gibson or Borla and now going back to stock. Well that say's it all. I've got a tenant with a mustang and I think it's stock. Every body complains about how loud it is. I like the sound myself. Enjoy your Mustang.

I know exhaust sound is highly subjective but my experience is the opposite having both the original and the redesigned version on the same vehicle, '14 Summit 5.7l.

The original let you, and others, know you had an aftermarket exhaust at all times and the redesigned version was quieter driving around town and louder under WOT which was their stated goal for the redo.

I don't believe the quad tips for the Summit materially changed the exhaust note other than maybe a bit more trumpeting effect.

As for drone, basically none on either and I am quite tuned in to drone.

FWIW, they design it in normal driving mode so if you are always in Sport mode it will be louder than in normal/ECO modes.

Not trying to discount Mr. Plummer's experience just adding some background info.

BTW, pls don't take me as a pure Corsa fanboy. While I am a fan of theirs I actually opted for the Borla ATAK for my SRT as their SRT Cat-back is a bit too tamr for me. I say that so you know I am a "louder is better" kinda guy and can place my comments in a better context.

Corsa states the new muffler is louder than the older version which is no longer available.

Thanks

Just to clarify, they say it is louder under WOT but quieter during cruise. This matched my experience with both systems.

Re: 5.7 hemi Corsa redesign

Questions by 2string1.
Q) What should a nice SUV with and aftermarket exhaust sound like?
A) Stealth while cruising and bring the rumble at WOT.

Q) What did you expect with a high performance exhaust???
A) From Corsa, I expected the same as stk but louder at WOT than the stk. muffler.

Q) First, don't ever expect to go faster, more HP with just changing the exhaust and second, of course it going to sound louder...that's the idea.
A) Trust me, I have a full understanding on how to go faster and making HP. I made the comment about the dyno because not everyone has access to one. And it's nice to get another opinion. If I made a mistake purchasing this exhaust system then so be it but I'm going to rectify the situation ASAP.

Q) I see your not even wanting to try a Gibson or Borla and now going back to stock. Well that say's it all.
A) Corsa was the one everyone said it didn't drone but the new system drones. Plus, I spent enough money on exhaust systems and labor and see no need to try the others when everyone said they drone.

Q) I've got a tenant with a mustang and I think it's stock. Every body complains about how loud it is. I like the sound myself.
A) Sound is subjective and this is my opinion.

Thanks
Michael Plummer

A) I can't comment on your experience but I value your opinion.

Q) The original let you, and others, know you had an aftermarket exhaust at all times and the redesigned version was quieter driving around town and louder under WOT which was their stated goal for the redo.
A) Not sure how you make a redesigned muffler flow more and then make it quieter while driving around. This is different from what I was told twice today. The newer muffler design is louder and flows more than the original.

Q) As for drone, basically none on either and I am quite tuned in to drone.
A) Can't comment on your experience.

Q) FWIW, they design it in normal driving mode so if you are always in Sport mode it will be louder than in normal/ECO modes.
A) Seriously folks, I have a lot of experience in the aftermarket and automotive racing world.

That's the whole science of sound engineering. The entire sound/flow/back pressure profile can be adjusted wherever in the powerband you want based on pipe diameter/length and location/design of bends, baffles, sound chambers, muffs/resos, etc. Keep in mind you are likely talking to sales/cust srvc folks who may not have the exact scoop. I can put you in touch with the guy who designed it if you like.

I was just commenting on the very specific drive mode impact with this particular exhaust/vehicle combo. I can pretty much guarantee that if you think the Corsa drones you will not find a less droning system short of cobbling together your own setup.
