5.7L clunky and unrefined

Maybe its just me, But I feel like the 5.7L motor doesn't sound like its a well oiled machine.. its very diesel like sounding. Lets say when your driving next to a wall or in a tunnel and you have the windows down, you slowly give it some gas and you can clearly hear the motor ticking or valves opening and closing or something.... does anyone else hear this stuff or is it just me?

Don't get me wrong, the exhaust and intake notes are beautiful and she feel likes shes running like a well oiled machine.. just not sounding like one.

Re: 5.7L clunky and unrefined

How many miles? My 5.7 sounded like yours when new, and gradually smoothed out after awhile. I have about 13K miles on it now, and she sounds very smooth.

Re: 5.7L clunky and unrefined

I think I have about 14k ... I almost want to feel like its normal because it feels and drive so smooth and obvious no check engine light and you can't hear it at all when the windows are up.

Re: 5.7L clunky and unrefined

The unique sound of the Hemi never disappears totally, and you're correct - it does sound sort of like a diesel, especially when new. Have you done your 1st oil change yet? If so, what kind of oil? I noticed mine quieted down a lot fairly soon after I replaced the oil/filter at around 11K miles.

I think i have done three or four so far.. I was using Mobil1 EP up until my last oil change when I switched to that new Pennzoil ultra platinum made from natural gas...

Re: 5.7L clunky and unrefined

Hmmm - interesting. I use AMSOIL Signature 5-20 and their 25K oil filter.

Well, I guess you could bring the issue up with your dealer SA, and see if they can hear anything out of the ordinary going on with your hemi.

Re: 5.7L clunky and unrefined

I think I know what u mean as far as diesel sounding. I'm currently at 2800 miles or so. I honestly prefer this stock note than what my camaro SS sounded stock.

Re: 5.7L clunky and unrefined

Im dropping the car off at the deal in October when I have to go away to a wedding for a few days, im gonna have them give the car a once over amongst a few other things, like recalls and software updates..ect..

But I have a feeling this is just what a badass American V8 sounds like and I have to get used to it.

Just picked mine up. MY 2015 only has 200 miles so far and I know what you mean about the diesel-y sound. But I confess, it's awesome.

Re: 5.7L clunky and unrefined

Mine has all the hemi "sounds" at 14k which I love but I have a noisy water pump that adds that huffed bearing sound. Otherwise she purrs with the Amsoil 5-20 Signature Series I feed her. She munches an extra qt every 3.5k or so.
