BTW there is a TSB about smoke on startup .. im bringing my truck in for that and a few others...

LOL, yes i use Mobil 1 5w50 but my engine are built new, with no mds lifters custom pushrods, cam etc.........

your issue have nothing to do with the oil, go do the dealer and check the car.

Just heard from the dealer and they put in new valve guides and seals. They want to keep it for a few extra days to make sure everything's good before they release it back to me

Re: 5.7L Hemi oil guzzler

I've had 2 Hemis for a total of about 36K miles now. I've never added a drop to either. I change every 6 months -- which is typically ~6K miles (according to my manual).

Ya, I'm sure this issue is relatively rare. Doesn't seem that way from reading these threads.

Got the Trailhawk back yesterday and it started up clear today. From looking over the paperwork, it doesn't look like they really found anything amiss. They changed the valve stems and seals but there is no mention that the original ones were bad. The odd thing is that they broke off the top of the dip stick . I've got a broken off stub in the tube now . I was plenty pissed about that and they agreed to come to me to make this repair

Prob is officially solved for now. No blue smoke at startup since valve seal replacement. Shop foreman said there have been a few with this prob and likely due to bad batch of seals

Re: 5.7L Hemi oil guzzler

Well this is a little scary this is my first HEMI but I'm still shocked over this kind of oil use, my last couple vehicles 2008 Envoy Denali (5.3) and at the most it ever used was maybe a half quart and a 2004 GMC Sierra with 5.7 (non HEMI) same thing maybe a half quart any more than that and I would be concerned so I'm going to keep an eye on that dip stick (it only has 225 miles right now) I had a 96 Pontiac Trans Am w/5.7 that burn some oil maybe a quart between changes and thats why I sold that oil burning POS. I just hope I don't have an oil burner with this vehicle
