50K tune up...results

Bought my 2011 WK2 Summit with 48K on it. Finally finished up doing a tune up for it. Did not get all the service records so just assume nothing was done.

Changed the oil from whatever the dealer put in with a Motorcraft filter. Went ahead and changed over to Mobil 1 EP 0W-20 with a NAPA Platinum Filter. Also changed the plugs. They were the original NGK Coppers and in decent shape but warn out. Replaced with 16 Bosch Iridium's. Also went went with the Volant CAI.

Was at 19 to 20 MPG Highway at 65 to 75 before. Now at 21 to 22 MPG at Highway at 65 to 75. At 60 it was getting 24 of the EVIC. Pretty happy since the EPA on it was 19 Highway.

Feel more power, better response from engine and also the MDS seems to work a lot smoother and better now. Plugs were pretty simple change, nothing was really in the way to make it difficult. But a flexible joint attachment makes it easy.

Re: 50K tune up...results

The copper plugs have a change interval of 36k miles so hearing that they were decent but a bit worn at 50k isn't surprising. Hopefully the iridium plugs don't give you and issues with the MDS system, but I think most people on the forum agree that the coppers work best and are a cheap option. YMMV.

Also, any reason why you're running 0W-20 instead of the factory-recommended 5W-20?

If you're at 48k and are going to assume that no previous maintenance has been done it would be a good idea to inspect your front and rear diff fluid, as well as the fluid in the transfer case - and replace if necessary.

Re: 50K tune up...results

Yeah I went with the 0W-20 because they were out of the 5W-20. Read that most didn't have issues with 0W-20 and if it helps a tad on the MPG then why not...

I don't really want to be changing 16 plugs every couple of years, so went with the better ones to be able to change them every 5 to 6 years.

Drove almost 1K miles on vacation and no issues from the oil or plugs with the MDS or anything. Like I said it actually ran better. The MDS before was slow to react with the old plugs and whatever oil they used.

It is back at the dealer to finally get its air compressor changed for the QL...
