Accelleration in the v8 vs v6

As I have said before I am in the middle of an Audi Q5 vs Jeep debate for my next new car. I am so close to buying the Jeep, but the one thing that bothers me a bit is the V6 felt a little sluggish. I like the gas mileage, but will the V8 feel much quicker? I am not an aggressive driver, but I don't like a slow response or sounds of the engine straining when getting on the highway or passing. I know the answer is to test drive, but I am in northern michigan on vacation and can't get to a dealer and have these burning questions, lol!

12l/100km = $19.92 V8
10l/100km = $16.60 v6
$3.32/100km
24000km/year
240x$3.32
$796.8/year more.
This would be the worst case scenario for me.
I do mostly HWY miles and getting better than 11.5/100km
To me a small sacrifice to have the comfort, power and smoothness of the V8.
Pure luxury.

Picked up my '12 Limited V6 3 weeks ago. I wanted the Hemi but, just like Brandont, couldn't live with mid-teens MPG average. Emotional choice, not objective, but that's how I'm wired. Anyway what I've concluded is the V6 is a fine engine. The 5 speed not so much in fully automatic mode. Sport is a little better but still is reluctant to downshift. However the ERS manumatic is the best I've driven. I find the ERS engaging and it gets the most out of the 6. Shifts are smooth, instantaneous and super convenient. If you want to set it and forget it pass on the V6 until the 8 speed comes out but if you like a little direct involvement in your drive I think you'll be impressed.

I got the v6 in my 2011 GC. I traded in my 2006 RAM 1500 with the 5.7 hemi. The v6 is fine for me 95% of the time, and I'm getting great gas mileage 18 around town and I just got back from a 1000 mile trip where average 24 MPG. While most of the trip was highway driving, the trip was to the outer banks where I spent some time driving on the beach. I don't regret buying the v6.

Didn't want to spend the coin on the SRT8. Wanted instead to modify someday the standard summit with some more umph. Waiting for the mods to come. Until then, the hemi wiil have to do.

Range Rover is also consistently one of the worse vehicles for reliability.

Perfectly, and in fact more than happy with the V6 . . . and mine is 4WD. If I need to drain the blood from my retinas, a V8 in a JGC simply isn't going to do that. Nor do I seek out and race other JGC's. So comparing one JGC to another, in my mind, is silliness. There are much better vehicles, and often for significantly less money, that will satisfy any adrenalin junkie with ease.

Well my Hemi is giving me an adrenaline rush, just not exactly the one you'd expect on the street.

Haven't taken her for extreme offroad yet, but have taken her to some rough areas here in Kuwait and she loves to romp through rock, dirt and sand.

Putting an 8 speed transmission behind a v6 and claiming it will reduce V8 penis invy is like taking those pills sold on the internet to make your junk bigger:eek:. I don't care how many gears... i mean pills you take you'll never be John Holmes.:D:D:D:D:D:slapfight:

Its a typo. All reviews, etc. all quote low to mid 7 seconds on the hemi. Probably 7.8 not 8.7 but unfortunately the foreign press has picked up from this typo and put that in their reviews. The hemi is fastest but worst mileage. The Diesel is middle speed with best mileage. The 6 is last speed and middle mileage.

Seriously 8.7? Its faster than my Armada which was rated 7.5 before I increased the timing and got it down a couple tenths. And that has less HP and TQ and is much heavier.

Car and Driver has it at 7.0 seconds flat. That makes much more sense.

Exactly. The Hemi performance is intentionally underrated, IMHO. I see 0-60 in 7sec flat or perhaps a tenth or two better. The Q7 with V8 is rated 7sec 0-60 and during play time with a several of them over the past year my Hemi powered WK2 easily pulls away.

I thought Jeep was owned by an Italian company now

I just looked it up and they are in fact Italian majority owned. Well at least they are still 41.5% US owned and still make cars in the US, but then again lots of companies are starting to build in the US since the US worker is getting cheaper on the world market, VW pays $16 an hour in the Southern US and they have 400 applicants a week.

Wikipedia "Chrysler Group LLC, organized in alliance with the Italian automaker Fiat.[5][6] Initially holding a 20% interest in Chrysler Group, Fiat's stake was increased to 58.5% (fully diluted) following acquisition of the equity interests held by the U.S. Treasury (6% on 3 June 2011) and Canada (1.5% on 21 July 2011) [7][8]"

Hemi is the winner Thanks for playing Ladies and Gentlemen.

Diesels are good for pulling, long distance traveling, good gas mileage. Hemis are the speed and second for pulling. V6 is the econo motor.

being a turbo we all know there is going to be some insane power adders available for the CRD. Chip might add 50hp and get that torque up over 600Nm <drool> can't wait till it hits our shores in America. Kinda glad they are working out the bugs in Europe and down under, kinda like Honda used to do with its cars before bringing them into the US (now they just manufactuer them in the USA).

I think JEEP is smart keeping it positioned between the Penta and Hemi, they don't want to canabalize HEMI sales. Leave it up to the aftermarket for those that want to out do the HEMI
