I'm in the second camp. I drive about 55k miles a year and love it. I had a G35 that I hated because I didn't get a stick and it wasn't fast enough. I have always and will always by the biggest fastest of anything I drive. I can't see buying one car for performance and another for economy or utility. I want my utility to perform too.

So just like there's people who like red, and others like blue, I just am who I am and others are who they are but don't act like you're side is superior to the other. It isn't. Its just different.

ISo the way to answer V6 vs. V8 is simple. Do you like performance or not. The savings or the adequate performance is clearly not going to satisfy the performance crowd and the extra grunt won't make the economy guy happy. I'm happy I got the V8 every second I drive. I know I would hate the V6 every second just as much. But I would love the V6 if a V4 was the alternative.
It sounds to me you should have gone with the SRT if you want REAL PERFORMANCE or another SUV as many other SUVs with a V6 outperform the 5.7HEMI. The SRT is only another $20/wk in fuel.

So what vehicle would you recommend to someone who wants a WK2 Grand Cherokee, but also wants the performance of the "other SUVs with a V6", but doesn't want a Grand Cherokee with a V6 (since many other SUVs with an inline 4 outperform the Pentastar), but doesn't want or can't afford to pay the extra $20k for an SRT8?

Even factoring in the added fuel costs with the Hemi, I can't really think of any SUVs on the market right now that beat the GC's value. The 4Runner is the only other SUV in its class that offers real 4WD, but it doesn't come close in terms of features. Everything else is FWD-based and/or also lacks the features.

Just work an extra week per yer and you can afford the SRT8, and stop whining.

I agree when it comes to wanting a real 4x4...there's not much if anything that competes. The ones that do are AWD (which many on here would be fine with). I'm not aware of any Inine 4 in any midsize SUV let alone if one does it exist, that it beats the pentastar. However, I was just adding fuel to all the laughable comments made throughout this thread.

The inline 4 comment was for dramatic effect, but my point still stands

Re: Advice needed.. V6 or V8?

You're still not getting a "real 4x4" unless you get the Quadradrive which is only availabe on the higher end V8 JGC models. All the V6's and Laredo's get the open diff's with no locker/limited slip option.

Re: Advice needed.. V6 or V8?

With all the posts about the MDS issue, I'm glad I opted for the Pentastar.
