Re: Advice needed.. V6 or V8?

According to the EPA, the V6 gets 19mpg combined and the V8 gets 15. I'll believe that before I believe any bragging poster on the internet.

In the city of Pittsburgh, in stop and go traffic, with hills, my Hemi averages between 11.7MPG and 13MPG. It does get over 20 on the Highway though.

And you'd be getting about 20% better mileage with a V6.

don't care. test drove the v6 and hated it.

If I want a no torque feeling, annoying exhaust note, slow vehicle - I will drive my 4-banger Fusion.

The hit on gas mileage is well worth the extras the hemi gives you in this vehicle IMO.

This is in liters per 100km 10.5L/100km which equals 22.401390166728117mpg in a v8 HEMI sitting on 71mph (110kph)

Doesn't surprise me, being closed minded is a huge barrier to overcome. Liking the V8 is fine, buying the V8 is fine, but your continued insistence that the V6 is "a joke" and that all of us (the majority of WK2 owners by the way) who chose the V6 are somehow morons is whats totally asinine.

Sure, right after reseting the readout. Look at your immediate economy and how much lower it is than the carrot that denotes your current average. When I reset the readout on mine during the trip at highway speed it read over 26MPG for a time, because I reset it while it was coasting along at 70 MPH. Once it settled down and I moved through traffic, the grade of the road went up and down...it wound up being 22. I could have posted a picture saying 26 here and claimed that was my mileage...and it isn't.

Total FE for the trip with the V6...21.5. Not bad given the size and heft of the vehicle, but had I taken the Lexus it would have been 28-29. Had it been the V8 it would have been under 20 for sure. Now, obviously I chose to take the Jeep over the more fuel efficient Lexus so I'm not that worried about it.

Look, this is my point. If you want the V8...fine...buy the V8, but don't come here and lie about the kind of economy you're getting to somehow try and justify the choice that you've made. This vehicle does not get good fuel economy overall, and the V8 is significantly worse than the V6. The V8 is of course a power and capability upgrade from the V6, nobody is disputing that, but it comes at a significant price. This forum is supposed to be a source of information, and those are the facts. If someone wants the V8 despite those facts, fine.

Re: Advice needed.. V6 or V8?

The economy gauge was reset at the beginning after filling up.
That was taken after a 1500km trip on the way back into home.
Admittedly there are no hills on that trip and only 2 towns to pass through.
No idling, no traffic, cruse control the whole way 114kmh.
Only a couple of roadtrains to overtake.
It was an exceptional trip, normally a lot of trucks.

the v6 is still slow, underpowered and a joke IMO.

It's an suv. Not a race car. How much faster is the hemi than te pentastar? Does anyone have any true 0-60 times on both stock engines? Either way, I got the v6 and am 100% happy I did. And it's not slow inmy optinion. Maybe slower than my Harley, Acura and Tacoma. But def not slow

ahh, the "it's not a race car" excuse. That's a good one.

I would rather have the power than need it and not have it. The Hemi is numerous car lengths to 60 faster than the v6, my neighbor has a v6 overland and we tried racing.

It's not all about racing though, it's the overall feeling that the v8 gives over the 6 that makes it a much better choice. And once the Jeep is lifted with mud tires and in a foot of slop, that extra power will be good to have.

Re: Advice needed.. V6 or V8?

I think perhaps you need to separate what is a much better choice for you and what is a better choice for other people.

Just because something doesn't fit your needs doesn't make it a "joke".

that's the beauty of a public message board. Why would anyone answer if the only allowed answer is "whatever you feel is right for you"? Arguing about stuff on the internet is fun, sorry you guys are getting all bent out of shape about it.

He asked for opinions, my opinion is the v6 is not enough motor for a SUV and the v8 is a better choice.
