Re: Advice needed.. V6 or V8?

Sitting in front of a computer all day working...and then his leisure activity is sitting on a computer trolling on Internet forums...I actually feel kinda bad for the poor little troll.

Real rednecks work construction, or on a farm, somewhere outside, not in a cubicle. Troll has an odd view of himself. Obviously trying to make up for some physical deficit. LOL

Luckily he's got that V8 rumble to make him feel better.

It's not very imaginative either. Definitely a cubicle dweller.

For sure, the type that just makes it through the day doing what his superiors tell him to do as best he can while they take all the credit...with his only outlet being putting other people down on the Internet saying things he'd never dare say to someone in real life. I'd rather be dead.

It may not be a performance based question but it is in the performance section. The difference may not be worth it to you but it is night and day to me. My wife and I drove the v6 first and we were ready to leave the lot because we liked the Explorer better but then decided to drive the 8. We were both sold on the hemi after the first drive. Going back to the other makes with the v6's and even the pentastar were just boring. It may not be an SRT or a race car, but...

If you consider the difference "night and day" the numbers sure don't reflect it. And if you consider the V6 a "joke" then what do you consider the hemi, borderline a joke?

V8 Overland:
0-60: 7.6s
Passing, 45 - 65mph: 4.0s
1/4 mile: 15.4 @ 92.2mph

V6 Limited:
0-60: 8.4s
Passing, 45 - 65mph: 4.4s
1/4 mile: 16.3 @ 86.6mph

Re: Advice needed.. V6 or V8?

I guess the Hemi is more of a gag than a full on joke.

I would rather have the power than need it and not have it. The Hemi is numerous car lengths to 60 faster than the v6, my neighbor has a v6 overland and we tried racing.

It's not all about racing though, it's the overall feeling that the v8 gives over the 6 that makes it a much better choice. And once the Jeep is lifted with mud tires and in a foot of slop, that extra power will be good to have.
Numerous car lengths? doubt it.

anyway, I wish i had the hemi..believe me...but it just didnt make sense for the use of my jeep..hell i wish i had the SRT...but once again, didnt make sense..plus, i would never buy a "sport" suv...if i could afford one of those, I would just buy an suv, then a nice sports car...but its all matter of opinion..and affordability.. if i had money to burn.. i would run around town in a big v8 sucking gas...i like my money in my pocket though hahah..

Re: Advice needed.. V6 or V8?

The take-home message, regardless of which flavor you prefer, is that Jeep still has a ways to go with both the 6 and the 8. Luckily, as has been mentioned, the issues are with the transmissions and tuning; not the engines.

What no one may have picked up on from the part of the article that I cited is that the 4Runner gave both GCs a run for their money, and handily beat the V6 Limited, while returning better fuel economy. And that's with the V6 Limited having no QL or panorama roof adding a few hundred pounds of extra weight. And the LR4 beat them all despite being bigger, almost 500lbs. heavier and having a smaller engine than the V8 Overland.

Everyone throws around this "it's a 5,000lb suv...what do you expect?" notion as if it's not possible to get Pentastar fuel economy and Hemi performance. The reality is that others are already pretty close, if not doing it already. Lucky for Jeep, it sounds like a big part of the solution is coming with the new transmission.

I personally traded-in an '11 V6 Limited on a '12 V8 Limited. The '11 was originally bought for my wife back in 9/10, but I started driving it this summer and wasn't a fan of the Pentastar/5-speed combo at all. Does that make it junk? No. What I don't understand is how this has turned into such a hostile debate. It's just like the "Limited vs. Overland" or "Should I get the ORAII package" threads that pop up every now-and-then. It's as if some people have nothing better to do (like drive their freaking 40-some-odd-thousand-dollar trucks) than go back-and-forth with others in these engine, trim level and option debates.

not really but if that makes you feel better, I am cool with that.

I must be doing something right, I don't have to sacrifice or skimp on a smaller engine to conserve some money on gas or spark plugs.

I would say this to you in real life. It's just having fun. Wow, you guys take this Jeep stuff way too serious. I feel bad for you. Lighten up, life ain't that bad.

As far as the "numerous" car lenghts. It was 2 different races, one from a dig and one from a 20mph roll. The roll one was a little closer wtih me in frony by at least 3 cars to ~80mph. The drag race was as easy 4 cars to ~70mph.

I don't seem to have a problem greatly exceeding the speed limit passing on steep hills.
