LOL...I have plenty of money my friend. No worries there. Wealthy people don't waste money...which is why they are wealthy.

Re: Advice needed.. V6 or V8?

I don't consider myself wealthy...but my decision to get the V6 over the V8 has nothing to do with not being able to afford the V8 or the fuel for the V8. I traded a Prius for the Jeep for God's sake...if affording fuel was the issue I never would have done that.

What I said about wealth was true though, wealthy people don't waste money. In my experience the wealthier the people...the less money they waste on things like cars, etc.

As for donating, I'd be happy to. Where does one do that?

But I thought arguing on the internet was fun for you?

Re: Advice needed.. V6 or V8?

Having owned suv's with "adequite" power prior to purchasing my 5.7, I never even considered the Pentastar. I wanted a vehicle that moves with some urgency when I apply the pedal. The 5.7 does this just fine.

I live in a rural area with not much stop & go traffic, which really helps my mileage - average about 18 to 19mpg, including our trips into the big city. On long highway drives (250 miles or more) I average about 22 mpg. Not bad at all. Not currently towing anything, but I can if I want too. So that's cool.

If I lived in the city, I'd have taken a close look at the Pentastar for sure. Might even have bought it.

Bottom line is I have a vehicle that I still love after 1 year of driving. I purchased it knowing that gas could possibly reach $5, $6 a gallon or even more in the future. If that reality causes you some pain, I probably wouldn't even consider the Pentastar, much less the 5.7.

So, buy the vehicle that makes sense for you and your lifestyle. Have fun, enjoy and don't look back (you might see a troll in your rear view mirror!).

Re: Advice needed.. V6 or V8?

If you take a dyno plot of both the v6 and v8 and track HP and Torque to weight ratios given the V8 weighs 400 lbs more you see that you arent gaining much in power department. Yes you may get nicer sound and more torque but your truly not that much quicker. Especially at highway speeds. Pentastar has a nice torque curve and it makes good mid range power compared to many v6's on the market that require you to rev them to death to get any power.

I'd say its more of a preception that V6 doesnt have much power than reality. V6 gets up and goes when I kick it down a gear and push accerlator. Much faster than I need an SUV to go.

I find it truly odd that some people think performance between the two models is signficantly diffent. V8 only buys a couple thousand lbs of tow capacity. Suspect some of thats less to do with engine and more to do with larger brakes.

the 5.7 hemi is a real dog in my opinion. Look at dyno's of that motor, It spins up in lazy fashion and it only makes 40 or 50 more peak HP than v6 on a dyno typically. Yes it has clear torque advantage but its not a quck motor by any strech of the imagination. Hell my 3.7 liter Nissan v6 in my 370Z with intakes, ECU tune , headers and exhaust makes better HP than the 5.7 V8 on dyno and is close to same peak torque. LOL! Thats freaking sad. People are delusional if they think V6 is much slower. V6 gets off the line about same speed as V8 with good low end and less weight.

I mean seriously! ....if youre going to chuck awesome 25 Plus Highway MPG of V6 aside .....just buy a SRT8 and get a real V8. Stop pretending! To me poor performing V8 in the JGC is a supreme waste of money. But people do like that rumble! Somone should make a V8 rumble ap for iphone that you can run through stereo in v6 so those addicted to low frequency rumble would feel more satisfied they have "real" power that isnt boring. Would save people thousands of doallrs a year in gas and running costs associated with v8.

I guess you could hop up your $40K V8 JGC with aftermarket tune, intakes, headers, echaust but really? Who wants to spend $40K plus on Overland with V8 and then have to hop it up to get real performance? I'd be pissed if I bought crappy V8 and had to spend money to get more power from it. I

I suspect if a V6 owner put intake on their V6, put high flow exhaust system and tune on the car it would have equal 0 to 60 times of stock V8 which is truly pitiful for poor V8 owner.

And by all means dont drag race your weezy v8 Hemi JGC with a $25K standard 6000 lb Chevy Silverado truck with a 6.2 liter V8. They will stomp you with blazing 6.5 second 0 to 60. Makes me laugh when people think this V8 Hemi option buys them much more power. Again its all fantasyland which is what marketeers love!

I think V6 verses V8 ownership may be indicator of IQ as well. Who spends couple extra grand for such a poor power upgrade? ...Other than misinformed poorly educated consumers who are swayed by the HEMI marketing hype. V8 owners arent much better then lemmings headed off the cliff in my opinion. V6 is a true thiinking persons power option. And when are we getting the desiel v6? Thats the intellect's delight.

And you thought only v6 bashers could troll!

I drove a V6 Laredo for 1800 miles before buying the V8 and IMHO, it felt like a dog. As others have said, I think a lot of it has to do with the tranny that is mated behind it and the shift points. However, in regards to full disclosure, I have only owned V8s my entire life, so it is obvious the V6 was going to feel a bit sluggish.
