AFE CAI for 2011 WK2

Hey all,

I've posted around the forum before, but this is my first time posting under performance/intake/exhaust section. I am pretty na´ve when it comes to this stuff but im learning for sure.

Anyway, I just ordered a tuner the other day...pretty excited for it. I am doing research on CAIs now, and I was recommended by a dealer to look at AFE. Im looking at the momentum sealed box one, and the open airfilter one. Here is the link:

Jeep Grand Cherokee 2011 - aFe Power

I'm looking for a nice noise when gunning the gas...but also a noticeable different at idle. I don't want my Jeep to sound like a muscle car at idle, but a little bit more deep sounding than stock sound. Does anybody have experience with either of these intakes? I have a 2011 Laredo 3.6L V6.

Thanks in advance!

Re: AFE CAI for 2011 WK2

Greetings,

Here is my link from last fall with my aFe:

Afe Magnus force cold air intake (pro-dry)

After almost a year with it and the Diablosport in use, I am very happy with the performance and sound.

If you do an advance search within this forum, a lot will come up about the aFe.

Best for now.

Re: AFE CAI for 2011 WK2

I don't think you will hear a difference at idle. Also, With the 3.6 I'm not sure you are in any danger of sounding like a muscle car.

Haha I didn't think so...I guess if I want louder then, I should go with the open filter? Also, what are the differences between the dry filter and oiled one? Clearly I don't know as much as others lol.

Re: AFE CAI for 2011 WK2

Greetings,

It is a nice mellow sound. If want louder, maybe a new cat-back.

In any event, as they say, it is all about personal taste.

Best for now.

I don't recall any CAI mentioned here that will change your sound at idle. The oiled vs dry filter debate is a long one on here. I have a K&N intake and do like it a lot.

Your sound will not change at idle, only when opening it up. I've been happy with my K&N

Re: AFE CAI for 2011 WK2

Hey all, so just an update on the aFe CAI. I got the Pro Dry S filter 51-12122. Sitting in the box right now. I'm getting it installed on Monday by a local auto shop where I get my Jeep serviced. I am pretty pumped. When I talked to the guy, he told me to not waste my time and send it back- He claimed that he's done this sort of install before and sometimes customers have had trouble with check engine lights turning on due to the airflow sensor. I told him that I did my research and that I'd like to go ahead and install it anyway- I'm hoping that doesn't happen to me! Only time will tell. Have any of you guys had problems with your check engine lights at all with CAI installs?

I will keep you all updated when its done!

Re: AFE CAI for 2011 WK2

Hey all,

The CAI got installed yesterday. I've only been driving with it a couple of times obviously, but from what I've experienced so far, I'm really liking the intake. The aFe looks nice, sounds fantastic when gunning the pedal, and I have noticed an increase in power and torque. After I have my "fun" with making it growl, I'll let you guys now later on about Economy, etc. Here is a pic.
