AFE cold air intake

Put it on about a week ago noticeable power. Haven't put it on a dyno to see if the 19hp that it is suppose to add is actually there. A little bit more engine noise but over all not to loud. Would post pic but it will not let me

Re: AFE cold air intake

Maybe 19 with a tune, but that would even be stretching. Don't believe manufacturer's claims of dyno adds. You maybe gained 5 if you're (very lucky). Modern engines don't gain much with bolt-ons -- unless you tune for them.

Re: AFE cold air intake

That is NICE! Looks like it uses the stock "ram scoop" turning the airstream down then into the box-less water? Ture that? LOL
I like the Volant but am concerned the ram scoops in directly from the stock location-more ram air but could some water can get in?
Do you know what the little "bulb chamber" is on the left side of the 2012 5.7 stock airbox?

I don't know what it is for I am sure someone on here knows but I haven't had any problems with water coming in at all

Re: AFE cold air intake

Trying to decide between the AFE and Volant-which I really like but the owner told me it was the DUAL EXHAUST that causes the throttle lag-event though the pre 2011s had single exhaust AND the lag.

So that stock scoop connects to the bottom of the filter "box" right?

On the Afe it is actually an open box that sits flush with the hood to keep out hot air but the vent does feed in the box but as far as lagging I haven't had any problems and I have the duel exhaust but it did lag on my 09 with the hemi but in my opinion all CAIs are going to give you about the same amount of hp increase but I have seen an increase in gas milage on the highway

Re: AFE cold air intake

yeah Volant lost a little credibility with that "comnment"-he was pretty adamant about it actually.
Is there any kind of seal at the bottom where the stock vent enters the box?

No the vent feeds in to the bottom then it slopes up and the filter sits a little over 3in above the bottom of the box so the likely hood of water getting in is very low

If you would like I can take a pic of the inside where the filter sits

Re: AFE cold air intake

Put the stock one back on I had a AFE intake on my hemi for 3 years put the stock intake back on I am getting better throttle response, I did love the better meaner sound but lose power.

Re: AFE cold air intake

Well of course a pic would be cool-I looked at mine-it just goes straight in to the bottom of the box. Just the stupid clips makes me want an AFE!
Chris my experience with CAIs is they are really better for mid to high rpm-like getting up to speed on an on-ramp. And the sound
