aFe makes quality products. I've used their Pro Dry S filters in a few applications. I wouldn't hesitate if you want an intake. They are all similar in sound and performance. Volant might be slightly more quiet due to their enclosed design, but I've read of many fitment issues. I for sure would pick aFe over an oiled K&N. Once you've had a performance dry filter, you won't want to go back to oiled gauze.
Need to spend some extra time fitting in there and it does clear. I adedd a few washers under one of the 3 mounting points. Didn't hit hood but touched the under hood sound deadner.
So I have the same AFe and have no problems with the hood fitment but I had a heck of a time re-connecting the IAT, it barely reaches. I even disconnected and rerouted the line. Anyone else experience this?
Also, I've had mine on for three weeks and I'm experiencing a notable loss MPG, -2.6 to be exact -- same daily commute and outside temp. I didn't expect an increase, installed for look and sound, but I also didn't expect an 18% decrease. Thoughts?
For now I'm thinking I'll run another tank of gas (I go to the same station weekly), monitor and then swap the stock back on for four weeks and reevaluate.
The AIT wiring harness is a stretch. There are extensions out there. I know my K&N had one for my 2004-2008 4.7 L it was a good 8". I rerouted mine as well. Was yours sort of wrapped around the harness buy the throttle body?

As for your question, yeah, it was wrapped around. Even with re-routing it's a tight fit. It also seems farther up-stream than stock.
While I was out there I also noticed the connection to the TB is offset to the passenger side quite a bit. I loosened and tried to slide to the driver side but I had no play in the intake tube. Very odd. Perhaps I got a bad one or one for the WK1. Anyway, here are the pics I just snapped to better explain.
See where the power steering reservoir line passes behind the AFE Airbox near the cut out sideways U. It will chafe the hose. I put some edge molding on mine and put some of the black wire cover on it.
Also check the brake lines that come up out of the ABS and take a 90 If its close it may be rubbing on that.

Thanks :thumbsup: Those are good tips and I'll make sure to correct. I thought the U-shaped notch was oddly placed myself, couldn't figure out its purpose...

I find it a tad askew that three people are experiencing different fitment issues. As for the MPGs I wish it was from a heavy foot because then I could correct... my daily commute is 26.4 miles round trip and it's all on back-roads with many stop lights. The past three weeks I've run 12.6-mpg down from 15.2

I installed an AFE CAI on my 2014 GC Altitude 3.6L. The sound is amazing. Subtle low purring at idle, a press on the gas brings a deep growl. Throttle feels stronger, I had to slow down as I hit 65MPH. Definitely, recommend AFE Pro Dry. Planning on ordering a ported TB from Fastman soon. Magnaflow 16929 maybe next Spring. Gotta save up.
I installed mine 2 months ago in my 2011 V6 as the first step in my engine mods before I ventured on my 2k+ roundtrip. One the key factors that I chose aFe, was the heat shield pipe running to the throttle body. From all the reviews that I looked into, the pipe does a better job keeping the heat out especially since on the V6 the run is 2/3 over the engine.
After 2 months now, I have the same results that you have reported. I did have some improvement with the summer blend gas with an increase roughly 1.5 mpg. I also found that I had a small increase in performance when climbing hills and mountains.
So next is the exhaust, followed by the Diabiosport and possibly the throttle body. For the exhaust, I am debating between a cat-back or an axle-back such as the Gibson. The sound is not important to me (but quieter the better), it is the performance and how they relieve the back pressure.
I wonder how much does a new TB help on the V6 when everything finally gets tuned?
