The final filter housing I believe will be the same as the housing for the 3.6L that is on their site. Tubing is expected to be 4" diameter, but material choice was yet to be determined last i heard...

Re: aFe Power 5.7L CAI

so how does this compare to the published results from K&N on the same 5.7L JGC?

Re: aFe Power 5.7L CAI

I asked aFe to explain their "calculated" gains and torque.

It looks like this chart is a different one altogether... The original attachment has been updated.

Re: aFe Power 5.7L CAI

Something is not right with the new graph because the numbers listed in the average column state an average torque gain of 20ft/lbs across the rpm range? That's substantially higher than the average numbers listed on the first graph yet the peak HP numbers seem to still be close to the originals?!? Torque gain only hits 20+ briefly at around 4600rpm so there is now way the average could be 20ft/lbs.

Also, I was always under the impression that the "peak" number was the largest gain at any one point in the powerband, but they seem to label the actual peak in the graph itself as the "peak" gain. Am I out to lunch here?

I'm sure aFe will have an explination but it looks a lot like number massaging IMO.

Re: aFe Power 5.7L CAI

ooja3k: Thanks again for passing along all this info and being the guinea pig - I don't mean to be negative it's just odd there is such a change from what we saw in the first chart. Let's hope aFe can help deciper all the info and give us a clear answer on this.

why you keep scanning it upside down?

+1 thanks to you

Re: aFe Power 5.7L CAI

Looks like they went with Dyno #2

http://afepower.com/shop/details_new...7L&&brandID=53

At first glance this appears to be a quality intake - the fittings, pipe, and box all look good and I'm digging the low key wrinkle black finish.

What I did find interesting is that they list the oiled filter version as "maximum performance and airflow" while the dry is described as "maximum convinience". Part of that may be due to the oiled filter having the inverted top and therefor more surface area. The one thing I don't like so much is the price tag.... $350 (And that's "on sale" at $50 off msrp)

ooja3k: was your prototype the oiled or dry version? and can you post some installed pics now that its been released? Cheers!

Edit: $251.69 w/free shipping at AutoAnything - using the "WELCOME15" discount code.

Re: aFe Power 5.7L CAI

They claim a 64% increase in airflow over stock. I've only gone so far as to install one of aFe's drop-in panel filters, for which they claim a 37% airflow increase, which leads me to ponder if the extra airflow of the CAI actually would make much of a difference, as compared to the aFe panel filter.

Any opinions, informed or otherwise?

Re: aFe Power 5.7L CAI

The full intake will offer improved airflow over a drop in filter but your not going to see any substantial gains until they crack the ecu and come up with proper tuning. The way I see it is your getting better sound now and laying the foundation for future mods.

I have one on the way and will do a detailed write up showing install etc once it arrives.
