Another 5.7L issue.

Randomly when Im under heavy acceleration, it will start making a weird knocking noise under the hood, I lose a moderate amount of power and it is clearly burning oil in as when this happens a huge cloud of smoke comes out the back exhaust. Its so random and happens for only a few seconds "2-3max" that of course my dealer can't replicate it.

This happen to anyone else or anyone here of this.

Re: Another 5.7L issue.

I've experienced something similar. I've only seen the puff of smoke twice and both times it was when MDS turned off. Never heard a knocking noise though.

Re: Another 5.7L issue.

yeah my MDS works fine and no smoke when it enabled and disabled.. Sadly I noticed I have a coolant leak also.. And my radio/nav unit shuts off and reboots randomly.

Re: Another 5.7L issue.

Geez, sounds bad. Maybe the blue smoke is coolant? Hope you get both issues resolved.

Coolant out the exhaust would normally be white.

Re: Another 5.7L issue.

The catch can is probably full, and when you go full throttle, it is sucking in liquid into the intake. Loss of power is from this, and also the cloud out the exhaust. In the winter temps, the BT catch cans fill quickly, with a combination of gooey paste (oil residue and water) and clear liquid which is mostly condensate (water) forming inside from the cold metal.

Re: Another 5.7L issue.

Also, I see you have an 87mm TB. If you are not aware, this absolutely requires a tuner and a dyno / datalogged custom tune. At WOT you will risk blowing up your Hemi running on a stock tune.

Re: Another 5.7L issue.

To the OP, I would immediately put the stock TB back on, and also put the stock air intake back on, with a new filter of course, and reset the ECU by disconnecting the battery neg while doing the swap. They charge a lot of cash on those items, but it is marketing BS. I guarantee you will notice how much better, faster, and quieter it drives right away. The 87 TB loses low end torque and also needs custom dyno tune for A/F as with stock tune it runs too lean, which could blow it up. I ditched the AFE II as I found out it is a total waste of money, slower than stock plus all that noise gets old quick.

Woah, IDK how I missed all this. Great info!
Thankfully I do dump my catch can every oil change and in-between but I think you right, I think when some gets sucked up in, thatís whats causing it. but it doesn't do it very often, like it hasn't done it in the last 3,000 miles. Also I havenít gotten any frothy or milky buildup in my catchcan or under my oil cap thankfully.

I would love more info on this whole Tb and intake issue your talking about of blowing up my motor. Why hasnít anyone else brought this up. Do you have any proof or any thing regarding any of these claims? Those are some serious claims.

As for the intake.. he just hates them and wants everyone to hear why. I know a few guys who arnt running tunes with ported TBs. No problems that i know for them and this is to serious of an issue that no one else has raised a flag to before. I am all for people getting tunes to get a better performing engine but for a ported tb only? No way.
