Well, it's better than "no".

Fingers-crossed that a vendor cracks the code.
Not to beat a dead horse, but to a lot of people the locked PCM is a GOOD thing, and a reason they would buy it.

To a lot of people looking for a clean used vehicle, the fact that it can't be tuned or modified heavily means the car hasn't been flagged for a warranty, and likely is in overall better condition/hasn't been abused.

I know a few people who have bought used vehicles, had an issue with them, then found out at the dealer they had no warranty since the vehicle had been modified. All were livid and had nothing but problems getting the issue resolved.

Honestly, if I wanted more performance, I'd have bought an SRT8. If I wanted more than that, I'd have bought a new ML63, CTT, or X5M.

Keep in mind, the people who would care they can't tune the engine are a tiny, insignificant portion of the car buying public. For the 1 or 2 people that might not buy a new Chrysler product because they can't tune it, 10 or 20 people will buy them because of the improved interiors and erogonomics and features.

Posts such as this scare me.

1) When I purchase a vehicle I expect to have the right of ownership, the freedom to use/modify the vehicle as I see fit as long as it does not unreasonably infringe on the rights/wellbeing of other people.

2) Much of what people spout these days is reflective of sloppy thinking, as in making a false assumption and then forming or expressing an opinion based on that assumption. I have been using these handheld tuners for years. I do so because I enjoy the general increased responsiveness of the vehicle, the sound of an exhaust/cai, etc. If gas mileage/emissions benefit from increased combustion efficiency, so much the better. I never abuse my vehicles, they are maintained beautifully inside and out, best maintenance with best filters/top synthetics, etc. Dealers know me well and are HAPPY to take a vehicle of mine in trade. The program can be wiped clean in a "flash."

3)Caveat emptor! I mean "honestly", there is so much you can do to check a car out before you put your hard earned cash down that this simply should never be an issue. I know a lot more people who enjoy tinkering with their vehicles than I do people who are"livid" about being stupid/naive.

4) I don't care what percentile or demographic I fit into. If it is worthwhile for a merchant to produce a product for me that I want, I will support that merchant by buying the product. This is an enthusiast forum. What are people like these doing on this thread in the first place. Go beat a dead horse somewhere else.

Dude...no offense, but your brain and mouth need to collaborate a little more before your mouth goes off spouting crap like this...I don't know of ONE red blooded American man who doesn't want to upgrade, increase performance, mod out, personalize his ride...and Im talking ANY ride regardless of SUV, sports car, rice burner. For you to make some irrational generalization to prove your points is ridunkulous...

AND....its not only men who enjoy being able to tune, increase performance, improve looks, mod out their rides....I know PLENTY of women who do the exact same thing when they get their new rides...

.nice try man, nice try....but we aint buying it!

Re: Any new Updates heard for a WK2 Programmer - BullyDog, HyperTech, SuperChip

Speaking as someone who has been into modding for many years, I empathize. But the facts are that this is a losing battle. The WK2 is selling much better than expected, despite the cars having locked ECUs.

The reality is, if you wanted to buy a vehicle that is moddable, that's what you should have bought. Not banked on Chrysler to have an about face in their policy on tuning. Tuners cost the companies large portions of their warranty budgets, and the more they do to remove it, the more they save in those costs, and the more money they can put into other things (like powertrain development).

If you want better performance, buy an SRT8. If you can't afford it, buy a used one. Still can't afford it? Get more money.

And not too sure where you're getting the male/female stuff from, but that's besides the point.

Personally, I'd rather them keep the PCMs locked and get the dealers to have decent loaner cars.

FYI: Chrysler makes exactly $0.00 on a sale of a used Jeep.

The make money on service, they make money on parts, and they make money on the initial sales they gained due to improved resale value due to demand cor used ones.

Sometimes you have to look at the big picture.
