From Edmunds:

Powertrains and Performance

The 2013 Toyota RAV4 is powered by a 2.5-liter four-cylinder that produces 176 horsepower and 172 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed automatic is standard, and the RAV4 is available with either front- or all-wheel drive.
In Edmunds testing, an all-wheel-drive Toyota RAV4 needed 9.1 seconds to hit 60 mph, an average time for this segment. The front-drive RAV4 returns an EPA-estimated 24 mpg city/31 mpg highway/26 combined, which is very good for a small crossover. The all-wheel-drive model, meanwhile, achieves 22 mpg city/29 mpg highway and 25 mpg combined.

Curb weight of a newer RAV4 is 3435 lbs...2014 GC weighs 1000 lbs more!
I'm quite sure it was a V6 version, available through 2012. They report very respectable 0-60 times of 6.3 seconds, while my 2013 GC, with mods, gets about 7.2 or so, depending heavily on air temps.

The '14 Overland doesn't weigh 1000 more, it weights about 1800 lbs more. That's like a Prius more.

So how much faster (officially or at least tested by the same entity using more or less the same methods and instrumentation) is the 2014 over the 2011-2013s ?

Re: Arrrgghhh! Beaten by a rav 4!

OP, I just remembered a statement from Car & Driver from a long time ago regarding a Porsche 911 turbo, which will make you feel better!!

"Our 911 had so much turbo lag, we got blown away from the stoplight by a cheerleader in a mustang GT!"

True statement, btw!

Believe it...
My wife drives a 2007 RAV4 V6 with FWD.
Damn thing is a rocket, but with the OEM tires had some God-Awful torque steer. Reduced the torque steer with Goodyear tires.

She loves to embarrass people who think the RAV4 is a joke!

EDIT: Mentioned this post to my wife... Her question: "Wasn't me was it?"

LOL. Nope.
Twin Cities, MN.
Winter weather makes the FWD and power/torque 'interesting'.
Just one of the reasons I don't like to drive it.

Re: Arrrgghhh! Beaten by a rav 4!

I have that same 270 HP engine in my Highlander, and have used it to tow trailers over 120,000 miles. I've driven the Rav4 also (almost bought one instead of the Highlander), and it feels like a sports car when you hit the gas. Don't feel bad, you couldn't match his low end gearing and light weight.
