Hey guys...
I wanted to buy a Corsa or Borla exhaust for my jeep but I didnt want to spend $1200-$1500. So I went another route. I started looking into electric cutouts. There are a couple of companies that make these like QTP, Race Ready and Badlanz.
After doing research, I found out that Badlanz had a 5 YEAR WARRANTY!!! so i decided to go with them. I am happy with my purchase. I had to buy 2 cutouts because we have dual exhaust on our Jeeps. I installed mine before the big suitcase muffler because i wanted it loud. If you are going to instal it in the same place I did, the exhaust pipe size is 2.5" there and its 2.25" past that.
Now I can open them up and it sounds amazing, I can close them when my wife is with me, or if I see a cop lol. When you close them it sounds like the Jeep died thats how quite it gets lol. I havent had any leaks or rattles.
this is the website i got them from: badlanzhpe .com
There customer service is awesome. PS if you are going to contact them do it through E-Mail they respond fast.
Here are some pics of the instal, sorry the pics suck its from an iphone. I hope the video works. PS I also bought the dumps and Y-Pipe from them too. I had the pipes welded on though because I didnt want to clamp it on.
Now I just have to instal my Eibach Springs and I will be done for a little bit.
Your ride looks really tight, nice work! I'm trying to decide if I should do an exhaust upgrade but fearful of the dreaded drone. Your setup is an interesting alternative- thanks for sharing. Please let us know how you like it after you've had it for a while.
Nice job Brandon. I have the QTP cut outs and they sound great as well. I didn't mind spending the money on the Corsa just wanted to try something new and different.
Do you have a itemized parts list, or did you get a kit?

I bought the dual 2.5" custom kit which came with two Y pipes and 2 electric cutouts. It also comes with a prewired switch that operates both cutouts.
I also bought two dumps from Badlanz as well which bolt onto the cutouts.
The kit comes with everything you need including gaskets.
That does sound good. Nice job and good looking truck. Does the system get overly loud in the cabin while driving and does it sound different when MDS kicks in? How does it sound on cold start when opened? Did you install the wiring yourself?
I have the Gibson mufflers and i am noticing some drone. May decide 2 get something different.
It does get loud in the cabin... But I also have mine dumped right in between the driver and passenger seat. I bought them because I wanted it loud. And when you want them quite you can simply close the cut outs.
Or you can just partially open the cutouts that way you can control how loud it will be.
For the MDS, I have no idea how its sounds. I always push the tow/haul button when I get in my Jeep. Plus I am always on the gas now just to hear the 5.7 purr the MDS would never come on. Lol
The kit come with a prewired switch. You just need to run the wire from the cutouts to your switch location. There is an electrical grommet underneath that I ran everything through to the interior. And from there I spliced into my cigaret lighter for a hot wire and then I grounded the switch.
The dealership would have to determine that the cutouts were the cause of any damage. They can't simply void your warranty for after market items. It's no different than welding on new exhaust. Just make sure you don't remove your cats and they go one after your cats
As promised some videos...
This was recorded on an iphone, so sorry for crappy quality. The video doesnt really do the exhaust justice. They sound amazing in person... I recommend this mod to anyone...
Thanks for posting these videos. They do sound great and the install looks good. But I've been researching exhaust cutouts and hearing them on the jeep helps. Regardless of the 5 year warranty there are some things regarding this type of system that concern me at the moment. Best of luck with your ride!
The cutouts cost $355
I also bought the down pipe which cost $70
But that's up to you if you want them.
I got them because I pretty much leave them open all the time. Lol
It sounds so awesome.
Great images and video, I am going to follow in your footsteps with my 2014 Summit and install the dual cutoffs before the mufflers. I'll post some pics once it is done.
I have an unused, never touched, in original sealed box 2.5" dual badlanz SS kit with downpipes included for sale in the classifieds section. Was going to put it on a '12 Overland but I picked up a '14 SRT before I got to it. 390.00 shipped to you. PM me if interested.
