Breaking in the engine

I have about 360 miles on my new jeep. Drove about 180 freeway miles and never really pushed it to much.. Any advice on the best way to break in the engine the first 1000-1500 miles?? Thanks in advance

Re: Breaking in the engine

Vary your speed, change the oil before 3000 miles, then at 8000, then at the recommended intervals.

Per the 2012 GC owner's manual, page 95-96, the recommended break-in period is 300 miles. So you are already past the break-in period. Drive normally.

Re: Breaking in the engine

I just drive normally from the start, no special break in method here.

I have built a few motors over the years and it has always been to fill it up and run it for a few seconds to check for leaks, change the oil, then beat the hell out of it.

Re: Breaking in the engine

I would run the piss out of it.. If you have that many miles on it, go for it... Just 2 rules..don't over rev , and WARM IT UP FIRST. Once you are at operating temp work it hard. Concur completely with above.. Don't just hammer and and let off, let run wild up to 70 then back off... coast down. Also remember an important aid in seating rings is to down shift when coming to a stop. Always good on the upper end of the motor.. Again do not over rev, but drive it like you stole it...
