I just bought the Mopar CAI. The instructions ask to disconnect the negative battery cable. Is that really necessary or just the standard precaution? And if so, is there somewhere better to disconnect other then under the passenger seat?

It's not that hard to disconnect really.
If I recall it does clear out what your Jeep has learned about your driving style and how to best save gas. I didn't notice a big difference at all in performance but the sound!...The Sound! Enjoy!
