Camshaft upgrade for 3.6L

Hey guys, has anyone upgraded their cams in the 3.6? I've been more and more interested in this lately. Im not quiiiiiite in the market for this mod yet, but I would love some feedback IF anyone has done this yet. If so, who makes the cams you used? I hear Comp Cams can do custom grinds, but I wouldn't really know what to ask for as far as dimensions, specs etc.

Thanks in advance!

Custom grinds will be what you need. I'm in the same boat in my 3.7 when it comes to off the shelf cams. There isn't any

Re: Camshaft upgrade for 3.6L

Do you know what the stock specs are for your 3.7 or my 3.6? Anyone know where the improvements lie? i.e. change this spec for this effect etc?

This will be my daily driver, not a dragster, so Im just trying to make it "more" aggressive, not a war machine >: )

Not sure why the crap I didn't think to run a search more specifically on just that, but I found this little treasure trove just now:

Re: Camshaft upgrade for 3.6L

Another question or two occurred to me as well...If you do a camshaft upgrade, what else then is necessary? Seems like a lot of guys building Chevy 350s or Ford 351s are going to add a camshaft along with different push rods, rocker arms, valve springs etc.

So IF you're going to do all this anyways, would it be worth the extra cost labor and hassle, OR do you think it's possible to drop in the cams, gain maybe 25-40 HP and ft lb of torque and call it a day without any long term damage?

Any of you gear heads know what all should be done at the same time if replacing cams, IF any of those "more better" parts are even available.

Re: Camshaft upgrade for 3.6L

Can't imagine this would be worth half of the money it would cost. Just do a simple blower. Cam won't do much on a heavy vehicle like this. Done... 🖒🖒

Re: Camshaft upgrade for 3.6L

I recently blew my 3.6l motor so I'm in the final stages of a custom pentastar build

505 performance out of New Mexico is doing the build for me ..they did custom ground cams (ground for boost)

I went with forged Pistons/stainless valves/fully ported heads etc..the motor was built with 14-15lbs of boost in mind ..I think replacing the cams alone might be more money and work than it's worth

If you want serious horsepower just slap on a stage 1 blower ..that'll give you an extra 100-120hp ..but it's pricey

Seems like you are going to have a beast once you are done. I am looking at options right now. I have a '13 3.6 and it struggled last weekend while towing a 3,500 lbs approx (loaded) travel trailer. It wouldn't upshift higher than 3rd gear on flats. I need more power. I suspect my drive to Cloudcroft New Mexico (almost 9,000 ft elevation) has something to do with my Jeep having to work harder.

Anyways, I got a quote of $7,545 from Motiva Performance in Albuquerque for a Magnuson SC including installation and custom dyno tune.

I think it is reasonable but I really don't know.

Are still running the Ripp?
