Champion has justed released their 9055 Iridium plug that should fit all 5.7L Hemi engines from 2008 and up.

The 5.7L uses different plugs for:

2005-2008
2009-2010
2011-2012

Re: Champion Iridium Spark Plug 9055 5.7L

The only difference between the two NGK's (2009-12) is the copper core ground electrode on the G version. The 9055 is an Iridium upgrade that has a copper core ground electrode. It will last much longer than the copper OE plugs. The 2008 mention was a miss type.

What annoys me is that we have 16 short life span plugs. I know when I change mine I am going to either an iridium or platinum plug.

Re: Champion Iridium Spark Plug 9055 5.7L

Do the Hemi's suffer from the same previous issues of different spark plugs failing ignition coils???

I have a 2000 dakota with the 4.7L and it has individual coil packs, 1 per plug. If I used anything other than standard issue it would miss. others ran with the miss and eventually fried the coil packs, one at a time. The coil pack has to work harder due to different plug types????

This was due to stock being center conductor of copper, thick and easy for current flow. 4.7 requires perfect ground for plugs, plug torque was also critical.

The platinum plugs use a fine wire center, causing excessive resistance making the coil pack have a higher output voltage due to same energy output, causing coil pack burnout pre mature.

I use different plugs when turbocharging for temperature range and pre-ignition. unless you plan on doing forced induction or nitrous, you do not need anything other than stock. Stock are cheap times 16, or platinum being expensive time 16. If you do the math, stock plugs will always be more cost effective over the long haul and offer the best MPG's due to changing more frequently. Platinum and others are a nice sales gimmick, and some OEM'S requires them from the factory, other than that I would never buy such a plug.

Which plug does the NHRA, Nascar, Indy, etc... use??? Not the Quad+Plat-Iridium etc... Good enough for 7000 HP, good enough for the WK2

My $.02 - Just a thought

I never used the stock plugs in my 2002 4.7 dakota. 125,000 miles and not one bad coil pack or misfire detected.

The 9055 are Iridiums. Think of the labor savings and more..... Having mine installed in the AM along with TSB updates.

They can be ordered through any traditional auto parts jobber, AutoValue, Parts Plus, Carquest, NAPA, etc. 7 year/unlimited mileage.
