Agreed the 645rfe really does a disservice to the hemi in this vehicle. Its really the same transmission as the 45rfe, so its definitely long in the tooth. The gear ratios aren't ideal and the the shifts are slow. With all that being said its a bulletproof trans and should be very durable. It's light years better than the 42rle I had in a jeep liberty.
The ZF 8 speed transmission the hemi is supposed to get this year should be a huge improvement as long as the programming is good. I bet the 0 - 60 times drop by a full second, fuel economy will increase by 10+% and it will feel much more responsive across the board.
However I'm glad I have the 645rfe so I can wait a few years for them to work any bugs out of the 8 speed before I get one. That's a very expensive unit. Just one gear set (there are 4) costs more to replace than an entire 645rfe transmission. And as we can see with the pentastar heads there are always growing pains.
