I just had mine installed this morning, so my opinion thus far is based on a 40 mile round trip to work and back.

The idle sound is phenomenal. The tone is very deep and throaty sounding! However, the MDS drone is quite noticeable. The bass-like tone at cruising speed is also much louder than I had anticipated and borders on obnoxious (IMHO). I felt a bit of vibration to go along with the drone that I tracked down to my wire rim glasses in the sunglasses holder. I removed them and it stopped.

If you're looking for a moderate increase in exhaust presence, this is probably not the system for you. I have not had a chance to shoot any video yet, but intend to soon. Since the inside noise has been covered by others, I was thinking about shooting video from outside the vehicle, much like the promotional stuff on web sites from Borla, Corsa, and Magnaflow.

Re: Dynomax cat back system

I will be using dynomax's 90 day safe and sound guarantee. They will refund the entire cost, + $50 for incurred installation fees and cover return shipping. IMO this system is not suited for the Jeep. As stated above...it is obnoxious. Anything above idle sounds terrible. Their are weird vibrations, tuner car tones and other things hard to describe. I did call dynomax to see if any other muffler styles could be cut-in and was told nothing else would work.

This kit removes the big resonator under the middle of the Jeep and replaces it with an xpipe right? I wonder if that has anything to do with the harshness you guys are experiencing when MDS kicks in.

Looking at the other kits like Corsa, Borla, and Magnaflow they all have their version of resonators that go in the same place and supposedly there's no drone with those kits. Also the Gibson kit just replaces the mufflers from the axle back and keeps the stock center resonator. That's the kit I'm considering just was hoping to hear one first. Anyone try just using the Dynomax mufflers without replacing the middle section?

Re: Dynomax cat back system

If the mds ends up being an issue i intend to just leave it in manual mode which locks out mds. MDS is worthless anyway.

Re: Dynomax cat back system

So would the sound be loud or obnoxious on a 3.6?

I don't want to think about what it would sound like on the 3.6 since it can't make the 5.7 sound right.

I already keep it in 5th most of the time as there are a lot of hills where I live and 6th is just to low of a gear to maintain speed up hills.

The big box is the muffler, the resonators are near the rear bumper. Reports here are that only the Corsa does not drone, all the other drone, some more than others. There are work arounds (such as loud music, staying out of ECO mode). In the years I've been following the WK2, I have yet to read of a system, (custom or otherwise) without drone, awkward sounds, obnoxious resonances except for the name brand cat backs mentioned. I think I've read about every variation except the newer Gibson.
