Re: Dynomax VT ?

I think they're too big. My plan is to put them in the back where the two resonators are and remove the front muffler all together. May keep the stock exhaust just in case I don't like it for some reason. I doubt that will be the case though.

Re: Dynomax VT ?

Update: Took the Jeep to the exhaust shop today. Got my estimate, and everything planned out. Need to find some ball flanges to start the new exhaust from, I want to keep the original exhaust just in case. If anyone has an idea of where to find the right size flanges, that would be a big help. . The shop is going to look around too, but I told him I would try to find some as well. Hope to get it back in for the install in the next week or two. This is a link to what I need, I'm just not sure what size, and I can't find specs on these...

Re: Dynomax VT ?

Have an appointment set, and should be dropping the GC off tomorrow evening to have the new exhaust put on. Hopefully I'll be posting pics and video by Friday evening!

Angry Re: Dynomax VT ?

Well just back from picking up the Jeep... this sucks. First, it's not as loud as I would like it to be. I don't want it to be obnoxious, but I would like to hear it inside if I step on it. Also, the valves inside the mufflers that are supposed to keep them from droning are rattling. It's very noticeable at about 55 mph. Looks like I'll be calling Dynomax tomorrow to see about getting a refund. We'll see how good their 90 day sound and performance guarantee is.

Re: Dynomax VT ?

a nice muffler that i have used in the past that you dont really get alot of drone with is the Hooker Aero Chamber muffler. they are pretty cheap and they sound great.

Re: Dynomax VT ?

Ok, got a chance to call Dynomax, and they told me I would have to call my retailer, which was Jegs. So I gave them a call, and I am impressed. Customer service said to send them back, with my reasoning, and they would exchange, or give me a refund. I also asked about the cost of installation, and she said I would have to talk to a supervisor, but that it would not be out of the question. Meanwhile, the Jeep sounded like #@#%. Sounded like it was breaking wind more than idling with those mufflers on there. So, being the resouceful redneck I am, enter Mr. Sawzall....mufflers gone, hello straight pipes! Actually kind of like it, talk about turning some heads! Not going to leave it that way obviously, but I can enjoy for a week till I decide what I'm going to get. At this point, knowing what it sounds like with nothing, I'm starting to lean toward old school, and putting some glass packs on there. Another I'm looking at are the magnaflow bullet style mufflers, anyone use those before? Something like this...http://www.jegs.com/i/Magnaflow/642/...rentProductId=. Thanks to everyone for the suggestions, and following my progress!

Re: Dynomax VT ?

Bought 2005 WK Hemi with Flowmaster 40's already installed. Startup sound was awesome, floored was great, drone at 1700 to 2100 rpm wore me down. Replaced with Dynomax VT 2.5 inch. Factory pipe is ~2.75 so debated on 2.5 muffler or 3.0 inch but went with 2.5. The 2.5 seemed a closer fit. The sound is considerably quieter with zero drone but you know you have something slightly more aggressive than stock. We placed the muffler mid ship about under rear passengers. This gives much more room to any work on the trans/transfer case if needed down the road. Performance has increased with smoother RPM revs which justifies the claims the DVT flows better than an FM muffler. With more time and money I'd try inserting a pipe partially into the muffler to reduce some of the noise insulation impact.
