E85 capable questions. Pentastar 3.6L

I took delivery on mine today . . Blackberry Pearl. Limited 3.6L Pentastar.
Does anybody out there know whey there is no Flexfuel badge or yellow gas cap, or anything VERIFYING that is flex fuel capable. The Jeep Website says it is.. but I cannot find a thing as I look through the owners manual.. owners DVD .. etc

The following is at the jeep official jeep.com website

http://www.jeep.com/en/2011/grand_cherokee/capability/powertrain/

Versatile FellowThe powerful V6 is also capable of operating on gas or ecologically friendly E85 ethanol fuel. Fill your tank with either fuel for a robust 290 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque.

thx

Abby

Re: E85 capable questions. Pentastar 3.6L

From WK2 Jeeps.com...

"The all-new 3.6-liter V-6 engine will deliver 290 horsepower (216 kW) at 6,350 rpm and 260 lb.-ft. (353 Nm) of torque at 4,300 rpm, an increase of 38 percent in horsepower and 11 percent in torque over its predecessor, while providing customers up to an 11 percent improvement in fuel economy. The Pentastar V-6 is designed to run on regular gasoline, offering a 10 percent reduction in fuel cost compared with premium fueled engines. The engine also is flex-fuel capable, offering consumers the choice of gasoline or E85 fuel."

Mine has the yellow gas cap that says e85 on it so maybe they just made a mistake on yours. No badge though. I'm pretty sure you are fine running the e85

Yours isn't FlexFuel capable.

Some are equipped that way, others are not. Yours isn't.

That's hard to understand, if ordering a V6 would we actually have to select some no cost option to be capable of running E85?

I believe that was part of the "build" at Jeep.com, but I don't remember if it has an associated cost or not.

I'm not sure if it's no cost, but the answer to your question is yes. It is an option.

Re: E85 capable questions. Pentastar 3.6L

I just tried to do a "build" on Jeep.com to see what the cost would be for the E85 engine, and it doesn't show up there within the options.

Re: E85 capable questions. Pentastar 3.6L

Thanks Marlon! I just assumed all the new V6 engines could run E85, I guess I'll have to research it further to see if there is a clear cut advantage to go one way or the other.

If you didn't know, you should read up about E85.. E85 HAS to be much cheaper then gas just to pull even. What most people don't know, is E85 gets you less MPG then gas, thus you need MORE E85 to equal the same as unleaded 87, thus the cheaper price. It has to be roughly 60 - 70 cents under unleaded 87 to breakeven roughly.

Check out the Edmunds test.. http://www.edmunds.com/advice/altern...3/article.html

They spent nearly $30.00 MORE to go the same distance. E85 is no bargain.

Quote:
Gas Result: From San Diego to Las Vegas and back, we used 36.5 gallons of regular gasoline and achieved an average fuel economy of 18.3 mpg.

Gas Cost: We spent $124.66 for gasoline for the trip. The average pump price was $3.42 per gallon.

E85 Result: From San Diego to Las Vegas and back we used 50 gallons of E85 and achieved an average fuel economy of 13.5 mpg.

E85 Cost: We spent $154.29 on E85 for the trip. The average pump price was $3.09 per gallon
