Engine click / knock 2014 GC Summit

Hello,

I'm new to the world of Jeep. Just bought new black Summit....nice car! Is it a normal characteristic of the 5.7L Hemi to make a little rattle noise at idle that almost sounds as if it is a diesel? Never had a hemi before.
Thanks!

I have the same vehicle ... doesn't make any unusual noises at idle.

Re: Engine click / knock 2014 GC Summit

I noticed the same type noise on my 2013 hemi, and I'm also new to the hemi. Checked the oil level and found it just above the low marker, so added some oil to the full mark, and that seemed to quiet it down, but it still is a unusual sound to me. My guess it is normal for hemi's but I intend to ask the dealer about it at the 1st service call ...

Rob

It is normal. My '12 sounded like that when new. I don't seem to notice it much anymore, might have gotten used to it. I remember asking the salesman about it, he laughed and said it was how the Hemis sound. I remember thinking it sounded a bit like a diesel or maybe a few quarts low on oil. I'm at 30K and going strong.

Google "Hemi tick" and you'll see that they all do it and it's normal. I've had a few Hemis and they all sounded the same.

DING DING!
My 05 Hemi used to drive me crazy. The one in my '12 is much more quiet but I can still hear it.
