Engine light on

I have a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee altitude with the 3.6 engine. Yesterday, the engine light came on and has not turned off. The jeep still runs normal and I haven't noticed any problems with oil pressure or fluids. Before I take it to the dealer, does anyone know of anything else I can check or have you experienced this before? By the way, I have 23k miles on the jeep. Thanks in advance!

Re: Engine light on

Hi there,
Same thing happened to me, I was concerned at first as in the manual it said that if the light stays on after several times starting or driving the car you should take it to the dealer, so I did that, I took it to the dealer and in my case it was only a wire that wasnt 100% aislated so it was sending the computer a wroong signal, it took not more than 10 minutes ago to fix, and never had the problem again, hopefully your case is as simply as mine was.
Rgds.

If the light comes on and stays on, keep driving and see if it clears.
If the light comes on and flashes, head for a service department.

Any stored errors, such as bogus evap, etc.?

Re: Engine light on

the engine light can mean a million different things...and once its on you need a scan tool or a handheld device to clear it ...I get a million different codes on a regular basis because of the supercharger system I have installed...but some of the common codes kick off without you ever really noticing any performance differences ..knock sensors/o2 sensors/misfires/ etc etc it can literally be almost anything but until you pull the specific code you wont know

you can either go by the dealer and have them hook up the OBDII reader or you can grab one off ebay and clear it yourself

you can get them on ebay for like 20$

Lstowell is right...if its a blinking light and keeps blinking head to the dealer fast! it's usually something serious like knock sensors or something bad

Based on what you posted it, it seems your Check Engine light isn't flashing. If that's the case, I would pickup a OBDII diagnostic code reader at your local parts store to retrieve the code or codes and proceed from there. It may be something simple.

Re: Engine light on

Thanks for all the help guys. I'll pick up the diagnostic tool and see what it says. I got worried as my brothers 2013 wrangler did the same thing and it turned out to be a bad rocker arm (apparently a known issue). Hopefully mine is not the same as my brothers issue as he'll be without his jeep for 2 weeks.

Re: Engine light on

Well..it could always be worse..my engine decided to grenade today..so now I'm looking at a complete new long block to get mine going

My failure is the by product of adding too much boost though

Re: Engine light on

it's ridiculous that in 2016 we still have an "engine light". there are so many gd screens in these vehicles, it would be simple to show, in plain language, what exactly it thinks is wrong. "engine light" worked in the early days since there were no screens and limited dash space. these days, it's just dumb. you're telling me i can get a freeze warning from space but the computer on the other side of the firewall can't display anything? right.

Re: Engine light on

Gorey- I completely agree with you. In fact the engine light would seem like an important warning but yet it's a small icon on the top right of the screen. It seems like they would just spell it out right in the middle of the screen.

By the way my check engine light went away today. I'm not sure why but it was on for 3 days straight.
