Engine noise after big storm

So i was driving in a storm and of-course it is dark and i hit a large water puddle. Immediately after the engine starts making this noice. And i feel the vibrations. No warning light has turned on. It just vibrates that i can feel it in the floor and then it has like a "prup prup prup" to the engine. Idle is steady it kept driving fine and no noice nor vibes while driving only on a stand still no matter what gear is on but mostly in drive.

Help! What could it be. I dont want to hydrolock the engine or something like that.

I really hope its fine i work tomorrow at 7am.

What could it be?

Re: Engine noise after big storm

It may be best to have a professional look at it. That could be your local Jeep Dealership or a mechanic you use and trust.

Good luck

Re: Engine noise after big storm

Its still making noise but no lights, once i get back home from work i will double check if maybe the heat shield its touching the exhaust... im hoping its that. Thats how it feels, like the engine vibrations are touching soft metal

It was the heat shield hitting the downpipe

You are fortunate...I have seen where the fan (with plastic fins) brake off and this causes noise and vibrations. I had a Soldier hit a large and deep puddle with a HMMWV (Hum-V) and he broke a couple of fins off and it really through it out of balance.......you're lucky

Re: Engine noise after big storm

Thanks for your support. And service. I had a XJ that while towing a friends 18' boat we jut a hard bump and it made some noice and it went away then al of the sudden temp skyrocketed i had to stop and cool it off. One we unloaded the boat, we looked at everything real good and the fan was hitting the shout and not letting the fan clutch spin. Apparently that bump broke the shrout and made contact.
