Re: Engine Oil Cooler 5.7 engine

This is what the 2014 5.7L oil cooler looks like... its not the exact one on our trucks, but this is what your looking for.

when I get a chance to get under her and do an oil change, I will take a pic of it.

Re: Engine Oil Cooler 5.7 engine

Is it positive that an oil-cooler is not part of the HD/Towing factory package?

Re: Engine Oil Cooler 5.7 engine

I was underneath the car yesterday doing an oil change and I didn't see it, idk where I say it the first time.. then again I wasn't laying on a pile of snow while looking for it the first time.. so once its warm out I will try and snap a pic of it on our car..

Please do snap that picture...... of what you think is an engine oil cooler on your 5.7L hemi.
Then we'll try and tell you what you have pictured. Trust me it's not a factory installed engine oil cooler!

Idk, but anyways would you please send post a picture or tell us what and where our factory oil cooler is supposed to be / look like, because I have a 4x4 5.7L with the tow package, QL and QD2 ... so I should I have the factory oil cooler ... no?

I think your missing the point....... there is no OEM factory oil cooler on a Jeep 5.7L hemi, even one equipped with 4X4, QD2, tow package, and HD cooling. There is only a tranny fluid cooler built into the radiator. If you go to the link I posted previously in this thread, (reposted below) you can see how to retrofit an engine oil cooler setup for a 5.7L hemi from a late model 5.7L hemi Durango. This package only came from the factory with models equipped with the AHV (Police Package) sales code.

Oh wow, Thanks for clearing that up! The work to put one on seems kinda extensive, especially on a brand new truck.

Re: Engine Oil Cooler 5.7 engine

Figure 17 in the link below shows the thermal management unit for the transmission, which looks just like the oil cooler/heater on my Z06. So perhaps instead of an oil cooler, it's the "fluid warmer" for the transmission.

Yep, That's what I think I saw, I now know its for the tranny.

Re: Engine Oil Cooler 5.7 engine

But wait....... If you go to figure 18 from the above posted link it diagrams what appears to be an engine oil cooler plumbed into the cooling system along with the TMU for the 8 speed tranny!

The diagram does say that the depiction is from a 2013 Ram Truck and not a Jeep Grand Cherokee though. Interesting!! The engine oil cooler setup looks to be very similar to the one I linked to above from a late model 5.7L "Police Package" Durango, might actually be the same part!

Which leads to the question??....... Why would Chrysler offer an OEM engine oil cooler setup on 5.7L hemi Durangos and Ram trucks but not one on 5.7L hemi Jeeps??

Re: Engine Oil Cooler 5.7 engine

It could be that in the GC's engine bay, there just isn't enough room for an oil cooler. If I'm not mistaken, Durango's and RAM's have quite a bit more space in there. Just a thought ...
