Exhaust Resonator Delete?

Howdy, all.

Im loving my 15 Summit Hemi, missing my 12 JKU Wrangler (occasionally) and lamenting my choice not to get an SRT (occasionally).

I've also been watcing too many youtube videos.

In the process, I've learned that by deleting the Exhaust Resonator, I can accomplish a much more noteworthy (har har har) exhaust sound than I currently have (factory).

So...now I have questions:
First...what is the resonator SUPPOSED to accomplish (why is it there)
Second...how hard/expensive is it to delete
third....what problems should I expect if I delete it (loss of power/ MPG / emissions testing )

Kinda sorta almost seems to be CLOSE to the sound of a magnaflow system (not exact) but waaaaayyyyy less expensive.

Any thoughts, anyone?

As always....Thanks in advance.

V.

1. The purpose of a resonator is to modify the sound of the exhaust. The resonator is essentially an expansion chamber which allows sound waves to cancel each other out without restriction.

2. In theory it could just be replaced with a piece of pipe

3. I think the biggest worry in deleting it would be that there is a unpleasant or droning sound at certain rpm's that might show up. But it may just be louder. Hopefully someone who has done it can chime in...

Deleting the resonator only would produce really bad drone in the cabin. Once MDS kicks in, you'd drive yourself into an oncoming semi just to ease the audible agonizing pain you would be suffering from. Do it once, do it right. Get a Corsa.

Re: Exhaust Resonator Delete?

Gotcha

I didnt realize that would effect exhaust sound with the Acoustic Suppression System working (Summit).

Thats why I post questions here....Constantly learning.

Re: Exhaust Resonator Delete?

I to have been YouTube hunting trying to find that odd exhaust set up that sounds good. Corsa is by far the best and also way expensive. Borla videos almost all sounds like nothing happened and MagnaFlow reviews all say it drones really bad.

OP this video belongs to a JG member. You should be able to find all the answers you need on his post about the mod. I am going to be doing this also. Here is the link.

Re: Exhaust Resonator Delete?

I took off the mufflers and added straight pipe there instead, it sounds great and no drone. My local muffler shop did it for real cheap.

I put in a K&N air filter at the same time and now it sound and drives like a new car! Very happy with it and it only cost me $200

Re: Exhaust Resonator Delete?

I deleted the pumpkins off the ends of my TBSS exhaust, dumped it before rear axle, and had a Flowmaster 40 on it. It would drone from time to time, but not horribly. I plan on doing the same thing, not Flowmaster, for my Summit in the coming weeks.

If you don't like or can't handle cabin drone, this may not be a mod you want to make. However, buying a couple mufflers and cutting the pumpkins off is far more cost effective than $1500 for a Corsa!
