Someone here had K&N installed. I decided to go with Airaid and it's coming today. Finally...

Re: Finally! CAI for Pentastar!

Ok, I installed Airaid CAI last night and here is my thought.

I'm glad I got this. I had K&N CAI before on my previous vehicles likes Infiniti FX and knew it usually makes good sound(sometimes maybe too loud.) and little bit of extra HP.

I decided not to go with K&N because I believed Pentastar for WK2 needed OEM intake tube with air chamber instead of straight tube for rather low and peaky low end tourque. Specially with current decade old 5 speed transmission, extra air stored in tube is always welcome.

Because of utilizing OEM tube, it doesn't get loud, just subtle and nice growling. And I also liked the fact it uses OEM air intake that brings outside air to the filter, like Volant's.

As you see from my pic, its black panels are actually made out of steel. Not plastic. Little heavy but sturdy.

It took about an hour for this task.

There is something strange on those dyno sheets between engines... they doesn't start at the same RPM... wondering if it is happening the same loss of hp and torque during low RPM as the K&N

Without air chamber that holds air, you will loose more low end tourque. That's why I decided to go with Airaid.

No hard feeling for K&N and I've no personal preference with either company. I've had K&Ns before. I just think Airaid set-up is more suitable for this case.

Re: Finally! CAI for Pentastar!

So if i'm reading this right, the airaid and the volant will have more low end torque than the styles of k&n and mopar?

Thanks for the knowledge.

Also, I'd prefer the more quieter CAI. I don't mind a little noise but wouldn't want to startle my baby girl if she was sleeping in the back, lol. My friend has a seven year old K&N and when he's WOT its LOUD, really LOUD!

For WK2 with Pentastar. After talking to a local custom tuning shop, I was going to make a custom CAI with air chamber. But since Airaid came up with the product that reuses OEM intake, I decided to go with this.

For other cars and SUVs, I was prefectly happy with K&N.

Re: Finally! CAI for Pentastar!

OK... I am somewhat hesitant to install a CAI since I think I could hurt MPG, specially during normal city driving... unless a programmer could finally hack the freaking WK2's pcm and properly tune it to maximize a CAI installation, right?

Still curious because even using OEM intake, AirAid is loosing some low end hp & torque. Damn Pentastar desing or damn pcm? ...both? ...or damn Chrysler?

For now, I only have the K&N filter.

Re: Finally! CAI for Pentastar!

I noticed there is an AirAid oiled version (310-212) and a dry version (311-212).

I was looking at this post and was curious about oiled vs. non oiled regarding performance and air filtration quality... Which one is better for the 3.6?

Some sales data that backup 310 performance over the 311:
