Re: Finally! CAI for Pentastar!

Got my Airaid put in today. Total time of 1 hr 15 min. I spent a while looking for/trying to disconnect the negative battery terminal without any success. Also, I thought I was going to break the lower part of the OEM airbox when removing it from the rubber gromits but everything eventually seperated.

Sounds good, gives the engine a better tone. Happy I did this but still waiting to see what Mopar comes out with.

Re: Finally! CAI for Pentastar!

I put mine in Fri as well. I think it's perfect as far as sound goes. It's not obnoxious at all. You hear a nice growl at WOT, and you don't notice it at all during normal driving. Install was a piece of cake. I put the whole Airaid assembly together the night before (while watching TV). It took some wiggling to get the lower OE box out, but not too bad. I forgot to attach the CAI snorkel when I initially put the airaid box in . I didn't remove the neg batery cable either. I removed the relay for the PCM instead. I didn't know if I'd lose all radio settings, so I didn't want to remove battery cable.

I'm glad I got this. I had K&N CAI before on my previous vehicles likes Infiniti FX and knew it usually makes good sound(sometimes maybe too loud.) and little bit of extra HP.

I decided not to go with K&N because I believed Pentastar for WK2 needed OEM intake tube with air chamber instead of straight tube for rather low and peaky low end tourque. Specially with current decade old 5 speed transmission, extra air stored in tube is always welcome.

Because of utilizing OEM tube, it doesn't get loud, just subtle and nice growling. And I also liked the fact it uses OEM air intake that brings outside air to the filter, like Volant's.

As you see from my pic, its black panels are actually made out of steel. Not plastic. Little heavy but sturdy.

It took about an hour for this task.

Looks good brosef!

Re: Finally! CAI for Pentastar!

Just saw a release date of 4/15/2012 for p/n 77070042.
Two questions:
1) what real world effect do you expect ? (I live in a hot climate and have seen IAT readings over 140F)
2) will it affect the warrenty ?

Re: Finally! CAI for Pentastar!

...now in August and 77070042 is still not released...

Wish someone would just make an insulated tube to go from the throttle body to the stock air box without all of the furnaces.

For the Altitude there is Part # 77060080. Not sure why the other models weren't listed...

Re: Finally! CAI for Pentastar!

So why not go with afe or k&n? You get a pipe with those setups, no furnace.

Re: Finally! CAI for Pentastar!

Prefer to stay with factory part. IAT is still running about 20F-30F over the 90F ambient. All I really want is a plain insulated pipe to go from the throttle body to the stock air cleaner with a place for the IAT sensor and which fits over the VVT wiring and under the engine cover. Not much. Have no use for cone air filters.
