Finally found a tranny controller for the WA580

Hey guys!

I was searching around last night and there does not seem to be many solutions for transmission programming for the wa580 tranny in my 2012 3.6L. I finally ran across the powertrain control solutions tcm-2000 and tcm-2800. Has anyone tried this or have any experience? Just wondering thoughts after experience.

For those of you that have had your tranny tuned, by this programmer or something else, what is your opinion? Is it worth it or is there not much real improvement in day to day driving?

Reason is that the shift points are set up more leaning towards economy instead of performance. I lean the other way. Not all the way, more so towards the performance side.

My issue is that the 1-2 shift is at 2,500, 2-3 is at 2100, 3-4 is at 1900 4-5 is at 17-1800 or so. I shift 1-4 at 3,000 for more pull (sometimes slightly higher) then 4-5 at 2000 rpm. The downshifts are worse though. I'll still be in 4th gear trying to turn. I like to be in 2nd when I turn so I have more control and more power when I get thru the turn. I'd also like the shifts to be a bit firmer or faster even. Not sure if reprogramming will help with the quickness but firmness would be an improvement. I don't want it to jam and bonk but more firm.

Hope this explains what I'm after. Nothing necessarily "wrong" with stock programming but it's not where I would shift.

I get it and agree on the downshifts and certain points of torque mgmt I'd like to toss, think snipping the yellow wire on the wj. I think drivability and operator control would be had with the trans, but it's a Jeep trans, an expensive Jeep trans. I think there'd be significant but relative gains, it's still similar hp to my riding mower. I'd try a pedal box and a tune before going stand alone on this trans only because it's so tested, they would work with the trans too. But it could actually be simple and beneficial the tranny is strong Jeep tends to be weak.

Have you found any feedback from anyone with a five-speed variant from a V6?

Already a step ahead. I was SERIOUSLY bummed with I got my DiableSport Trinity from Hemifever.com and THEN when I sent all the necessary info back for the custom tune, I was told that there was no trans options for my truck, only for the 5.7 and 6.1. Otherwise, I'd already have been tinkering with that for a while trying to dial it in.

Not sure if going to an actual dyno would help or not because Ive called and emailed LOTS of places and most say they cant do anything with the trans. One place in Southwestern Washington (Maybe Vancover?) said they could tune just the trans but it was still about $400 and 6-7 hours of drive one way. Then they mentioned they could TRY to tune it, which makes me think either I was the first to ask about it or they weren't confident in tuning that particular tranny.

When I first got my truck, the price was a big factor but I had driven an old 97 Ford Explorer for 345,000 miles where there were ZERO aftermarket products for performance and I guess Id sort of written performance upgrades off. Now I really wish I had the 5.7 so I could do more tinkering.

Again I agree, the trans, even with human error would show best on a 1/4 mile vs a dyno. With the v6 the fun factor is the key and it's just lacking a little bit in the shifts and gearing with the 5sp which is a shame because it's a good combo.
